“Thank you for calling T-Rex Cafe at Disney Springs! We are excited to announce that we will be opening public starting on May 20th at 11 am. If you wish to make a reservation, please call back starting Monday, May 18th.”
At this time, there is no confirmation of Rainforest Cafe reopening anytime soon.
The Disney Parks and Resorts in the U.S. have been closed since mid-March — and so too have Landry’s restaurants on Walt Disney World property. But with hardly any word from Landry’s, fans of the restaurants are left wondering: will Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex Cafe, and Yak and Yeti restaurant reopen?
So far, when it comes to the restaurants operated by Landry’s on Disney property, it’s pretty unclear. Back when Disney World closed in March, they had announced that all Disney World theme parks, the resort hotels, and Disney Springs would be closed through March 31. They have since extended the temporary closure to last until further notice, and last week it was announced that Disney Springs would begin a phased reopening on May 20, when non-Disney restaurants and businesses were allowed to begin opening their doors.
Still, no word from Landry’s. Both Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex Cafe at Disney Springs had changed their voicemails back in March to say that the restaurants would remain closed “through the end of the month” along with the rest of Walt Disney World Resort. At the time, they encouraged guests to use the My Disney Experience app to search for available reservation times.
But it has been almost two months since the Landry’s restaurants at Disney World have closed their doors, and the restaurants’ voicemail messages still reflect the update from March. And even after Disney Springs announced a May 20 reopening and as restaurants begin to announce that they will be opening their doors next Wednesday, the Landry’s locations remain mum.
This doesn’t mean we don’t have hope. Although Landry’s furloughed all employees back in March, the company continues to reopen restaurants across the country as individual states begin to reopen. All 130 Landry’s restaurants in Texas, for example, reopened on Friday, May 1. And with the two Rainforest Cafe locations, the Yak and Yeti table service and quick service, and the T-Rex Cafe across Walt Disney World Resort, we wouldn’t be surprised if Landry’s wanted to reopen all of the dining locations at this tourism hub as soon as possible.
But the question is: when will these restaurants reopen? Currently, reservations are available for T-Rex Cafe and Rainforest Cafe at Disney Springs beginning June 1. Reservations for Rainforest Cafe and Yak & Yeti at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are available beginning July 1. But with no announcement from Landry’s, we’re still skeptical about when these dining locations will officially open their doors.
As far as how Landry’s is handling health and safety precautions during the pandemic, here’s a message on the official website:
Topmost on our minds is the safety of our employees and our customers, which is why we have taken, among other things, the following preventive measures:
- Employee Screenings & Health Practices – We will be screening our employees daily. If they have a temperature exceeding 100 degrees or are experiencing flu like symptoms, they will be required to stay home until they are symptom free, without the use of medication, for 72 hours and satisfy all CDC requirements prior to returning to work. We will allow our staff to wear face masks and or at the request of the guest and practice enhanced measures such as frequent hand washing and sanitizing.
- Social Distancing – Necessary steps will be taken to ensure that we are encouraging social distancing including spacing seated tables as required by each state. Signage will be posted in each location to further encourage these practices in the entry area as well as restrooms. Temporary high traffic areas such as playgrounds will be closed where applicable.
- Enhanced Sanitizing and Disinfecting – All areas of the property will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized daily. In addition, we will continue to regularly clean and sanitize high touchpoint areas including door handles, chairs, tables, restrooms, handrails, etc.
- Dining Enhancements – Restaurants will offer disposable menus and no-touch menu options to our diners. Additional sanitization steps will be implemented for condiments and utensils. Hand sanitization will be provided for guests at the entry of each location.
Our management is in contact with the CDC and other federal agencies to understand the most up-to-the-minute information to ensure the actions we are taking are comprehensive and appropriate.
We remain acutely vigilant about this serious crisis and will continue to do everything we can to protect our employees and our customers. We are actively serving our customers in the most appropriate fashion by offering curbside to-go and delivery options at many of our properties and as we begin to re-open our dining rooms, we will continue to practice and take part in preventive measures to ensure the safety of you and your family.
