Longtime Disney and Pixar artist, animator, and director Rob Gibbs has passed away.

The Pixar alum worked at the animation studios for 22 years, and it seems as though there isn’t a film he didn’t get his hands on.

Gibbs is known for his work on fan-favorite Disney films from Pocahontas and Brave to Monsters, Inc. and the Toy Story franchise. Most recently, he worked as an animator on Disney-Pixar’s Onward and director of the upcoming Monsters, Inc. spinoff series Monsters at Work, which is set to debut on Disney+ in the future. Gibbs’s daughter Mary voiced the adorable character Boo in the original Monsters, Inc.

Many fans and colleagues of Gibbs shared their caring sentiments toward him on social media on Friday.

“Heartbroken over the loss of Rob Gibbs. If you or your kids have seen any Pixar CarsToons shorts, Rob directed most of ’em. His daughter was the voice of Boo in Monsters, Inc. He was such a positive, hilarious, and heartfelt guy, who cared a lot for his crew. Will miss him,” shared Cartoon Network We Bare Bears creator Daniel Chong.

Character animator Melanie Cordan wrote, “Only worked with #RobGibbs on one film but it was my first feature animation gig & a formative one. In an ocean of intimidating talent & a few raging egos, Rob was not. He was lovely & talented. Very sad to hear of his passing today. #pixar #storyboarder #director #ripRobGibbs”

Fellow Pixar artist Bobby Alcid Rubio said, “One of the best and FUN times I ever had @Pixar was working on #TokyoMater with Director, #RobGibbs. Heartbroken over the news of his passing away. He was a tremendous talent, super funny and just a great guy! My condolences to your family. Miss you man.”

At this time, Gibbs’s cause of death is unknown.

Our hearts are with the entire Gibbs family, as well as anyone who grew to love him. We know he touched many of our hearts through his work at Pixar, and his legacy will live on forever through the joy and magic he created.
