The coronavirus pandemic has left a consistent trail of destruction in its path. From the thousands of deaths to the closing of businesses and increasing unemployment, this virus has put the world into a standstill. It’s even taken its toll on our beloved Walt Disney Company, with theme parks like Disneyland Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom all closing their doors, in an unprecedented move by Disney parks across the globe.
Sadly, the need for self-isolation has also meant that Make A Wish Disney trips have had to be postponed. Such is the case with 10-year-old Khloe, who was diagnosed with a rare blood disease. She wanted nothing more than to visit Disney World in Orlando for her birthday, and Make-A-Wish New Jersey were in the process of granting her magic wish. Sadly, when people and businesses across the country were told to stay indoors, Khloe’s trip to the happiest place on earth had to be put on hold.
‘The health and safety of everyone in our Make-A-Wish community including our wish families is our priority. Due to current medical and public concerns, travel-related wishes have been postponed for the well-being of our wish kids and families, until further notice. We have ensured to our wish families that travel wishes in the near future have been postponed, but not canceled,’ Michael Dominick, Director of Communications at Make-A-Wish New Jersey, told Action News.
However, in a lovely bit of good news, the community heard about her heartbreaking story and came together to make sure that Khloe still had a magic-infused birthday by granting her wish through the magic of Walt Disney. Family members, friends, and neighbors performed in a Disney style parade and dressed up as classic Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, and Olaf.
While we’re sure this isn’t the meet and greet that Khloe was expecting, it’s heartwarming to see the wishes of children granted by the magic of our very own communities at this difficult time. It just goes to show that wishes can come true when we all work together and are kind.
Mr. Dominick further commented that ‘Khloe’s wish has not yet been scheduled. We remain committed to granting a wish to every eligible child we are working with as soon as it is safe to do so, including Khloe!’
