Disneyland Resort in California has announced that, starting yesterday, April 2, trained Disneyland staff will be raising and lowering the American flag at Town Square each day that the popular theme park is closed due to continued national health concerns.

The news was reported by OC Register yesterday and comes on the heels of the release of a touching video showing the American flag still flying proudly over Main Street U.S.A. at Walt Disney World Resort. Until yesterday, Disneyland’s Town Square flag had not been flying during the closure.

Disney Parks officials stated that there had not been enough Cast Members trained in flag protocol on hand who could raise and lower the flag daily while the parks were closed these past few weeks. Now, however, the raising and lowering of the flag will occur on a daily basis. The patriotic flag ceremony is a favorite moment for many Disneyland park goers, so this comes as welcome news.

It is not known if the park’s marching band will perform “The Star Spangled Banner” like they do during the Disneyland flag ceremony on normal operating days.

Disneyland officials did point out that the all-weather American flags at Disney California Adventure Park’s Sarge’s Surplus Hut and Buena Vista Street have been raised throughout the closure.

Disneyland President, Rebecca Campbell, recently shared a message of hope for Disney fans on Instagram. Campbell posted, “Inside Walt Disney’s apartment overlooking Town Square at Disneyland, a light has shone through the window above the firehouse for decades.”

She continued, “It glows as a source of inspiration to our cast and our guests as a remembrance of the man who once looked out that window to the sights of happy families making memories below.Today, even in a world filled with so much uncertainty, that light still shines, bright as ever. I’m looking forward to the day when families can make memories once again.”

The Anaheim Disney park closed on March 14 and has not yet set an official reopening date. In addition to both park presidents, Cast Members at Disney World and Disneyland are doing everything they can to keep the magic alive during these trying times.
