Picture this: you’re at Disneyland walking around New Orleans Square after getting off the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.  After checking out some of the cool merchandise, it’s time for a snack.  You pop around and see the Mint Julep Bar!  Mickey shaped beignets are definitely in order.  What’s a more refreshing drink to pair those delicious Mickey beignets than a fresh and tangy Mint Julep?

You can find a Mint Julep at the Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans restaurants as well, but where better than getting it from the place that is named after this drink.  But where can you get this drink when you’re not at Disneyland?  Why at your home of course!  We’re about to help you make this delicious drink at home!

  2. When the sugar is completely melted, then turn off head and add in creme de menthe syrup or mint simple syrup.
  3. Let cool about 10 minutes.

Mint Simple Syrup Recipe

Melt equal parts granulated sugar into water in a saucepan then turn down heat to a simmer.  Muddle in double the amount of fresh mint leaves and simmer for about 10 minutes.  1 Cup sugar + 1 Cup water + 2 Cups mint will make a you a good amount for your next few batches of Mint Julep.

Watermelon Julep

For this summer drink, replace the lime and lemonade concentrate with equal parts watermelon juice.  It’s a yummy one for lounging around during summer time!  Top with watermelon and mint instead of lemon and maraschino cherries.

Haunted Mansion Blackberry Midnight Julep

This version of the julep came out in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion.  It’s a Blackberry Midnight Julep which you’ll crush up blackberries for the base of this drink.  Remove the lime juice concentrate from the recipe.  Swap the usual topping for mint and a lychee. (You can find fresh ones, but canned ones work too!)  It looks like an eyeball!

Holiday Cranberry Julep

For a festive holiday season mix in cranberry juice to the recipe, about 1 Cup should be good just to give you a hint of that flavor.  Top with a lemon slice and mint leaves.

Strawberry Julep

This Strawberry Julep is great for Valentine’s Day!  To make this sweet creation, slice up 1 Cup strawberries and crush them.  You want the juices to come out.  Add them to the bottom of your glass before serving.

Alcoholic Mint Julep

Feel free to make this an adult beverage as well by adding in some Liqueur.  The best pairing would be a white rum, but vodka or tequila would work as well.  Enjoy!
