In the wake of the current pandemic, Disneyland has officially canceled all of their Grad Nite 2020 Parties through June 13.
The update comes in a notice on the official Disney Parks Blog, which reads: UPDATE 4/16/20: In light of recommendations by school and government officials to limit gatherings for the remainder of the academic year in response to COVID-19, we are making the difficult decision to cancel Disneyland Resort Grad Nite 2020. Please visit the Disney Youth Programs website for more information.

The Grad Nites being canceled include the following dates:
- May 8, 9, 15, 16, 20, 26, 27, 29, or 30
- June 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, or 13
On the official Disneyland Website, the company lists a more detailed notice announcing the cancelation of the dates, which reads:
While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, the safety and well-being of our Guests and Cast Members remain the top priority of the Disneyland Resort. In light of recommendations by school and government officials to limit gatherings for the remainder of the academic year, we are making the difficult decision to cancel Disneyland Resort Grad Nite 2020.
Because Grad Nite events require a substantial amount of planning, coordination and travel, we felt that this was the right decision to make at this time. We know how disappointing this news will be to the many students who were planning to join us this year.
If you are a student or parent who is part of a group that was planning to attend Grad Nite 2020, please consult with your group organizer. We are reaching out to each confirmed group’s contact or travel planner with more information. As we anticipate a heavy volume of inquiries, we appreciate your patience as we work diligently to communicate with everyone.
We look forward to hosting Disneyland Resort Grad Nite next year and for years to come. Information about future events will be shared as soon as it becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding.

For those not familiar, the Disneyland Resort Grad Nite events allow high school seniors the chance to join in on a once-in-a-lifetime event where they get to experience one final night of high school memories with their friends before they embark on their new adventures!
The cancelation of the Disneyland Grad Nites through June 13 does not come completely unprecedented given the current state of California. As we previously reported, on Tuesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom said: “California will need to restructure daily life and dramatically bolster its public health resources in the coming weeks, or possibly months, before it can lift its statewide stay-at-home order meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
He added that the state needs to meet a six-point criteria before California’s stay-at-home order can be lifted, which includes:
1. Widespread testing that would allow the state to isolate people exposed to the virus and trace people with whom they have come in contact.
2. The ability for the state to care for older and medically vulnerable Californians, who are most at risk of suffering severe effects from the virus, as they continue to isolate at home.
3. The capacity for hospitals to handle a potential surge in patients, plus resume normal preventive and other medical care.
4. The identification of promising treatments.
5. The development of guidelines for businesses and schools to allow physical distancing even as they reopen.
6 The creation of a data-tracking system that provides an early warning if the state needs to reinstate a stay-at-home order.

As we previously reported, the California Governor was also quoted recently stating: “The prospect of mass gatherings is negligible at best until we get to herd immunity and a vaccine.” Additionally, he said large gatherings in June, July and August are “unlikely.”
