The Walt Disney Family Museum Closure Coronavirus

Update 3/9/20:

The Walt Disney Family Museum has reported that one of its employees’ relatives has tested positive for the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. That employee was tested today.

Here is the Museum’s official statement:

The Walt Disney Family Museum has been notified by a museum employee that the employee’s relative tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is scheduled to be tested today, Monday, March 9, 2020. As a reminder, the museum is closed at this time and we will provide updates as we receive them at waltdisney.org/visitor-update.

Original Story:

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread in the United States, one of the states most affected is California. According to the LA Times, the Golden State has reported 69 cases, one death, and over 9,900 people self-monitoring for the disease after returning to the country through San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.

In the wake of these developments, the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Fransisco has decided to close its doors yesterday, March 6, 2020, and will remain closed until March 20 or sooner if given the necessary medical clearance.

Here is the official statement:

Given the continued spread of COVID-19 in the local area, and based on Mayor London Breed’s guidance from March 6, The Walt Disney Family Museum has decided to remain closed to undertake extensive due diligence efforts—in consultation with experienced professionals—regarding potential secondary exposure involving staff and volunteers.

The museum will reopen when we receive clearance from medical professionals or on Friday, March 20—two weeks from our closure on Friday, March 6. All programming during this time period will be canceled or rescheduled.

“I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but the health and well-being of our guests, staff, and community are our primary concern,” said Executive Director Kirsten Komoroske. “We thank everyone for your support of the museum during this time, and we send you and your families our best wishes.”

We are committed to keeping you informed as we receive additional information. Updates will be available at waltdisney.org/visitor-update
