You read that headline right! Disney’s Descendants has been officially adapted for the stage and is now available for licensing, so your school’s next musical production can be Disney’s Descendants.
According to Playbill:
A stage adaptation of the Disney Channel original movie series Descendants is now available for licensing from Music Theatre International, in partnership with Disney Theatrical Productions.
Descendants: The Musical is based on all three of the Descendants movies, which premiered on the Disney Channel in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Directed by Kenny Ortega, the films feature performances from such stage alums as Kristin Chenoweth, Cheyenne Jackson, and Dove Cameron.
The story follows the teenage children of Disney villains Maleficent, Snow White’s Evil Queen, Cruella De Vill, and Jafar as they attend high school alongside the children of Disney heroes.
The stage adaptation features a book with ADDITIONAL song lyrics. The show is written to run 100 minutes and it can be performed without an intermission. However, there is an optional intermission and Entr’acte that allows for a two-act performance.
According to Music Theatre International (mti.com), licensing for Disney’s Descendants: The Musical costs a flat fee of $695.00 for accredited schools K-9, granting the ability to perform the show as many times as they want for up to a year. Non-accredited schools can also license the show by paying royalty fees and standard materials. There is also no age limit for this show.
The show materials are yours to keep and include:
- 30 Libretto/Vocal Books (script and songs for the actors)
- A Piano/Vocal Score
- An Accompaniment Recording that features the back-up tracks to use in performance
- A Reference Recording that contains the full score performed by an ensemble of actors to help your cast prepare for the show.
