Earlier this month, the Disney Channel “Descendants” star Cameron Boyce passed away due to an “unexpected death in epilepsy.” Following his passing, his past castmates and close friends paid tribute to the star on social media. Yesterday, Boyce’s “Descendants” castmates Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart and the film’s director Kenny Ortega did their first interview since his passing in which they remember their beloved lost friend.
The film’s stars and director spoke about Boyce on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” where they remembered the later actor fondly, especially for his kindness toward others. “Even when he was around, he’s the hardest person to put into words, you know — sorry,” Cameron said, fighting back tears.
“If you could bottle up happiness, that was Cam,” Carson added in a remote interview from Canada. “He was pure happiness and pure joy. There will never be any words to describe the pain and how much we miss him. And not much helps except knowing that he lived life with more happiness than anyone I’ve ever known.”
Booboo Stewart shared his struggles processing Boyce’s death, saying: “This was the first time I’ve ever dealt with anything like this,” he said. “They said just to be OK with any thought that you have.”
Kenny Ortega described the loss of Boyce “as tough as it gets.” Even though the conversation was grim, Ortega also went on to share his fond memories of the late actor, including his ability to light up a room with his personality. “Even when he was standing still, he was bioluminescent,” Ortega said. “He was lit from the inside, out.”
During the interview, the actors shared their final conversations with Boyce, who they had planned to reunite with on the “Descendants 3” press tour. “It was pretty normal,” Cameron recalled. “We all expected to see each other a lot more.”
