As we all know, many people around the world have been quarantined from society in a state of self-isolation due to the recent pandemic, which has caused a massive increase in the use of streaming services like Disney+. And, if you’re new to the platform, you might still be trying to find your way around. Well don’t fret–we’ve got some great tips to help you explore the enchanting video service like a pro!
For those who don’t know, the streaming service first launched last year and brought Disney’s ultimate collection of TV and Movies all to one place for only $6.99 a month–$12.99-per-month if bundled with Hulu, and ESPN+.
The service includes shows and movies from Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and 20th Century Fox and can be watched on your computer or on the mobile app for iOS or Android. The service also lets you watch from other major streaming devices including Apple TV, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and a number of smart TVs.
Add Separate Profiles
At this time, Disney+ allows subscribers to have up to four streams at the same time, which can mean a boatload of content to try to organize and separate among the users on the same account. However, by creating separate profiles, all of this content can be easily managed and personalized to each user.
To do this, from the main account, simply tap Edit Profiles > Add Profile. Then, select a Disney character as the account’s icon and then add the profile name. Here you can also choose if it’s a Kids Profile or if you want the account to support autoplay. This way, the next time you sign in you can select your own profile with your own playlists and preferences.
Download Content for Later
Similar to Netflix and YouTube Premium, Disney+ allows you to download their content to your device to watch later. This can be especially helpful if you know you won’t have good streaming quality internet readily available at a future time you’d like to be watching your favorite “Iron Man” movie.
To do this, simply tap the arrow pointing down next to the title of film or TV show of your choice, this will begin the download process. When you’re ready to watch back your download videos, simply open the app and select the download button at the bottom of the navigation bar. Here is where you can manage and view your current downloads. This is also where you can delete them after viewing by simply tapping the trashcan near the download.
Search New Content With The Right Filter
Similar to Netflix, Disney+ allows you to search by titles. However, if you’re looking for new content to binge, with the service having hundreds of films and TV shows, it can be a little difficult to immediately find something new to watch. Although, if you select the right genre filter, you can make your search much easier.
To do this, on the web, click the Movies or Series button up top. On mobile, tap the magnifying glass icon on the navigation menu and tap Movies, Series or Originals. Upon making a selection, tap the “Featured” drop-down and choose a genre of your choosing, like Comedy, Documentary, Kids, or options in 4K or HDR. From here, you can further pinpoint a piece or content of your choosing based on what you’re in the mood for.
Create a Watch Order Playlist
Looking to watch all the Marvel movies in order but are tired of having to keep looking back on the internet to see which movie is next each time you finish a film in your binge session? With Disney+ you can set up your Watchlist to put the movies in the right order the first time and simply continue watching without missing a beat.
To do this, simply locate the films or TV shows you want to watch, in the order in which you want to watch them, and as you locate them, click the (+) icon next to each movie title. By doing this, the movies will be added to your list in the proper order. You can then go back and view the list by clicking the watchlist in the top navigation bar on desktop or by tapping your profile icon and selecting watchlist in the mobile app.
See Movie Extras
For those of us who grew up with DVDs, you’re probably familiar with film extras and bonus scenes. Well, just because you may not have a physical copy of the movie on a CD, it doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy these special cinematic charms, thanks to the “Extras” tab!
To locate this special tab, find the movie of your choosing and upon clicking onto its landing page, you’ll see an option for tabs–one of which, will be “Extras.”
If you’re like me, you may not always be able to hear what characters on screen are saying. If so, Closed Captions can be your best friend!
To customize your captions, click or tap the subtitles icon on the top-right while a movie or show is playing. Here you can select your preferred language. If you’re watching on the web, you can tap the gear icon to customize the captions you see with different fonts, sizes, and colors.
Watch Disney+ Collections
As we all know, Disney+ has almost an overwhelming amount of content to choose from, which can make the start of your streaming time almost daunting when taking the time to choose what to watch first. However, Disney has taken the liberty of helping us out by putting together their content into categories of their entertainment brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
These are found almost immediately after opening the service at the top of your screen. And upon clicking each collection, you’ll be greeted with a new page of content exclusively of each brand.
