Marvel Studios has released the final official trailer for highly-anticipated upcoming Black Widow film. This is the second trailer and the fourth major sneak peek of the movie, which features Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff. Prior to dropping this trailer, the Marvel team had released a teaser trailer, a special clip, and a short trailer that aired during Super Bowl LIV.

The trailer focuses heavily on relationships from Natasha’s past. The first character who shows up after Romanoff is her “sister,” Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh.) In the comic books, Belova is another Black Widow who received her spy and assassin training from the Red Room. Every piece of marketing so far has showcased the dynamic between these two women.
Pugh previously spoke about Marvel’s Cate Shortland’s focus on keeping this film “raw and painful.” She stated, “It’s about emotions, and it’s about these broken girls trying to come back together again, and trying to fix something that happened. It’s about fixing yourself, and how you do that…Young women are going to see this, and they’re going to watch Scarlett in her element, and they’re going to watch this storyline, and that’s only a positive thing.”

Romanoff’s nemesis, the Iron Maiden, Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), and the Red Guardian, Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), are also featured multiple times in this final look at Black Widow. The Red Guardian was created as the Soviet equivalent of Captain America in 1967. This marks his first appearance in an MCU film.
The final major character who appears in this last look at Black Widow is the anonymous Taskmaster. This villain is able to mimic the physical capabilities of anyone he encounters, which makes him especially dangerous to the Avengers team.

Fan theories about Taskmaster’s true identity abound, but we’ll have to wait to see the villain’s full role in this latest MCU installment and whether or not Romanoff and Belova are able to expose who he is. Black Widow hits theatres May 1, 2020.
