Calling all Mighty Ducks fans! It looks like one of the original Disney stars is making a comeback. Emilio Estevez could be returning for Disney’s upcoming reboot of The Mighty Ducks. Here’s what we know so far.
According to the Disney+ fan and news site What’s On Disney Plus, the latest rumor circulating the upcoming reboot of The Mighty Ducks says that Emilio Estevez is in talks to be returning for the reboot. In case you need a refresh, Estevez is the star of the original Mighty Ducks film from 1992. Below is a synopsis of the original movie starring Estevez:
After reckless young lawyer Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) gets arrested for drunk driving, he must coach a kids hockey team for his community service. Gordon has experience on the ice, but isn’t eager to return to hockey, a point hit home by his tense dealings with his own former coach, Jack Reilly (Lane Smith). The reluctant Gordon eventually grows to appreciate his team, which includes promising young Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson), and leads them to take on Reilly’s tough players.
At the moment, we don’t know much about the upcoming series — and it hasn’t even been confirmed that Estevez will, in fact, be returning for the show. According to What’s On Disney Plus, the upcoming Mighty Ducks reboot series will have 10 30-minute-long episodes and will be streamed exclusively on Disney+, Disney’s streaming service which launched on November 12, 2019.
It has been reported that the new Mighty Ducks series on Disney+ “focuses on a 13-year-old boy when he gets kicked off the junior division Mighty Ducks team, his mom decides to start their own team, finding players, a coach, and a place to play.” James Griffiths will reportedly direct, with Steven Brill as screenwriter and Jordan Kerner as producer.
Disney has kept the Mighty Ducks show pretty under wraps, but since we know a lot of our readers are fans of the original films, we’ll be sure to update Inside the Magic as soon as more information becomes available.
