Located in the outer rim of the galaxy, tucked away in the Black Spire Outpost, you can build your very own Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop. But use discretion! You don’t want to be found out and captured by The First Order. That’s an adventure we would have to discuss in another post!

If you’ve visited the Walt Disney World Resort recently, chances are you traveled to a galaxy far, far away and visited Batuu; also known as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This new immersive land has captivated both Star Wars fans and Disney-goers alike as they explore the world of Star Wars in this real-life, out-of-this-world destination.

Among all the new experiences to explore, galactic dining to savor, and two new attractions to brave at this land, you can find yourself being guided by the “Gatherers” as you build your very own custom, personalized lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop. With four themes to choose from, travelers can take home a unique souvenir that will keep them tuned in to the Force, even after they head back home.
There are four options at the workshop to choose from to customize your Lightsaber:
- Peace and Justice
Salvaged scraps from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in these Republic-era designs honor the galaxy’s former guardians. - Power and Control
Originally forged by dark side warriors, this style features rumored remnants from the Sith homeworld and abandoned temples. - Elemental Nature
This theme embodies the Force—an energy created by all living things, like Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones and Rancor teeth. - Protection and Defense
Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect users with the ancient wellspring of the Force.
Travelers can then further customize their saber by selecting the heart of the Lightsaber; the kyber crystal, which is available in red, blue, green or violet.
However, a new hack has been discovered that will allow you to change the color of your Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber without much technical experience.
Discovered by Riot Games’ Gene Chorba, changing the color of your lightsaber is as simple as reprogramming the RFID code in your weapon.
So the Disney build your own lightsaber system uses RFID codes to tell the lightsaber what color to display.
Which means if you have an RFID read/writer you can swap through all the colors without buying each crystal. pic.twitter.com/u0mQYJOarU— Riot Gene (@gchorba) December 20, 2019
With the help of an RFID reader/writer, the code can be reprogrammed to change the colors the original coding offers. These RFID reader/writers are easily found on Amazon and cost about $28.
If you choose to go the extra mile for a truly unique Lightsaber, once you have the RFID device, a simple google search can provide the step-by-step directions to change your lightsaber color from the comfort of your home planet Earth.
These Handbuilt Lightsabers from Savi’s Workshop can set you back a good $200. So, another $30-ish won’t break the bank, right?
Would you hack your handbuilt lightsaber from Galaxy’s Edge? Let us know in the comments if you would, if you have, and if you’ve been successful! We’d love to hear how you channeled the force on this project!
