If you’re planning a Disneyland vacation for 2020 and you’ll be flying to LAX or John Wayne airport, you may have to figure out your own transportation. It was just announced that the Disneyland Express airport shuttle service will be ceasing operation after the new year.

Coach USA, the company that had a partnership with Disneyland Resort to operate the Disneyland Express for a number of years, made the announcement that the last day of service for transporting Disneyland Resort hotel guests to and from Los Angeles International Airport and John Wayne Airport will be January 7.

“Coach USA Southern California has informed their client Walt Disney Travel that the bus service between John Wayne Airport and Disneyland Resort Hotels and LAX and the Disneyland Resort Hotels will no longer continue after January 7, 2020,” Coach USA North America corporate affairs director Sean Hughes wrote in an email, the OC Register reports. “Coach USA Southern California thanks Walt Disney Travel for the opportunity to serve them, their clients and the general public for many years. Coach USA thanks our employees who worked on this service.”

Disney has not officially stated why the partnership with Coach USA ended. At the time of this article’s publication, the Disneyland Express airport shuttle service is no longer listed as a transportation option on the official Disneyland Resort website. Only public transportation options are listed on the website, which can be viewed here.

For the time being, here are our suggestions for getting to and from the Disneyland Resort from January 8 onward:

  • Uber or Lyft from the airport: If you are staying over the course of multiple days and you aren’t planning to extend your trip to explore other areas of Southern California, this will be your best option.
  • Rental car: This is a great option if you are staying multiple days and you want to explore other areas of Southern California, such as Universal Studios Hollywood.
  • Train: You can take an Amtrak, Metrolink, Bus, or Greyhound to Disneyland Resort from one of the Southern California airports. However, you will still most likely need to Uber or Lyft from the train station or bus stop to your hotel.

It’s currently unclear if Disney plans to partner with another company in order to provide a similar Disneyland Express airport shuttle service to those guests staying on property at the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, or Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. It’s also unclear if Disney will want to own and operate their own shuttle service for Disneyland Resort guests in the future. But many still speculate that this could open the door for Disney to implement the Minnie Van service, currently in place at Walt Disney World, at Disneyland.
