It would seem that Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book is about to be the first Muslim Marvel character to headline her very own television show!
Marvel is developing a television show for Disney+ that focuses on the other big female superhero with Marvel in her name and according to sources, they have hired Bisha K. Ali to write and act as showrunner. In the past, she’s written an episode for the television show Sex Education and is currently a staff writer for the Hulu remake of Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Though Disney and Marvel are yet to officially confirm the show, it’s highly likely that they will at least mention it at the Disney+ panel happening very shortly at D23.
Believe or not, Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers can be traced back to Ms.Marvel as there was a time in the comics where she took the name Ms. Marvel before it was passed onto the teenage American Muslim, Kamala Khan. It is the current incarnation, Kamala Khan that the show will focus on.
In the comics, many of the stories have shown her struggles with her religious Pakistani-American identity and discovering her own way in the world. It’s highly likely that the Disney+ show will borrow from many of the existing stories that Kamala Khan has faced since taking on the role back in 2014 when her first solo comic launched.
Disney is really ramping up the Disney+ selection of Marvel shows as Ms. Marvel will be joining Loki, Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye and the What If series in which the first episode poses the question, What if Peggy Carter got the super serum over Steve Rogers and became the first Captain America.
More details on Ms. Marvel as we hear them, are you excited to see her join the cast of the already great lineup of Marvel shows?
