Whether you’re 5 or 55, heading back home after an exciting trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth can leave you feeling blue. (At my house, we call that feeling “the Disney blues.”)
Since even the most seasoned and fanatical lover of the Mouse usually can’t stay in the parks 365 days a year (though we’d love it!), many have spent hours dreaming of ways to bring a piece of the magic home with them from the parks. But when the usual souvenirs like t-shirts, spirit jerseys, and plush toys aren’t enough, what’s a Disney fan to do to make those non-park days more bearable and to keep the magic alive at home?
Thank goodness for Disney magic (and for shopDisney) which make it possible for the most devoted Disney fan to turn her home into her very own Disney castle. Here are a few things to make your home more Mickey, more Woody and Buzz, more Cinderella, more Beauty and the Beast–more Disney, whatever the magic means to you.
In the Kitchen
Think back to your last trip to the parks. Which table-service restaurant did you enjoy most? Is there one you wish was located in your hometown? What did you eat while in the parks that you wish you could enjoy at home?
We’ve learned from experience that no Mickey waffle outside of the parks tastes quite like one from Chef Mickey’s, The Crystal Palace, or 1900 Park Fare, so we won’t even try to duplicate the experience. We won’t even suggest buying a Mickey waffle iron. But we love the idea of Disney décor around the kitchen, especially when the décor is in the form of something useful, like a small appliance.
When you’re in the parks, be sure to buy a bag of ground coffee from Joffrey’s. (We especially love Mickey’s 90th anniversary blend!) If you have to leave the parks, why not brew your morning joe in a Mickey-themed java maker?
Not into coffee? (Me neither.) Not a problem. Disney’s got you covered with a Mad Tea Party tea set, complete with the Door Mouse, that will remind you of the signature attraction in Fantasyland.
And what Disney fan wouldn’t love to have a character-themed slow cooker in the kitchen? Whether you’re making a roast for Sunday lunch or tortilla soup on a cold night, everything tastes better coming from a Disney slow-cooker. ShopDisney.com has slow cookers with the likenesses of Mickey, Jack-Jack, Remy and the Little Green Alien Men, Star Wars characters, Marvel characters . . . the list goes on!.
Though the Via Napoli Pizzeria can only be found at Epcot at the Italy pavilion on the World Showcase, you can still play the part of culinary master when you bake and serve pizza at home with these handy Mickey-inspired pizzeria-style gadgets.
And a kitchen’s not a kitchen without kitchen towels, so why not enjoy the magic every time you dry your hands or your dishes? We love the whimsy of the park food print and the classic look of Cinderella Castle and Mickey’s iconic silhouette.
You can find all these kitchen items online on shopDisney or explore more options on our Inside the Magic store here.
Around the House (but outside the kitchen)
ShopDisney has a huge selection of items to Disney-fy your home outside of the kitchen, too. This Mickey-inspired cubby has room for everything from hats and coats to bags, backpacks, shoes and more. Notice the black cubbies on top (like Mickey’s ears), the drawer in the center that looks like Mickey’s trademark red pants and the two yellow cubbies on the bottom that look like his shoes? Yeah, we love them too.
When you visit the parks, one thing you notice in the shops is artwork–lots and lots of fascinating Disney artwork by super-talented artisans who really love the Mouse. And every other Disney character as well–wall art by Thomas Kinkade, knick-knacks and collectibles by Jim Shore and Britto, breathtaking pieces by artist Noah. And Disney artwork will go far in turning your home into your Disney castle. Just look at these beautiful pieces!
At the end of a long school day, what could be more comforting and relaxing for your little ones than snuggling up with plush bedding inspired by Mickey and Minnie? ShopDisney’s bedding sets will have them dreaming about their next trip to the parks in no time.
Baby loves Disney too!
Baby loves Disney too! And even if he or she isn’t old enough to remember that first visit in the parks, we have a feeling that with Disney fan parents like you, your baby will enjoy a life-long love and appreciation for the Mouse. So start him or her out young with these adorable Mickey- or Minnie-inspired crib bedding sets in muted colors. Have you ever seen such an adorable nursery?
We love this cozy quilt with Mickey! No need to drape it over a crib or bed–just let your little one wrap up in it on the sofa. Maybe he’s a Disney actor in the making. If so, let him wear it around the house as a cape; we won’t judge! However he experiences the magic is fine with us. And what a great way to add a little “Disney” to his day at home!
Do you have things in your home that keep the magic alive between visits to the parks? We’d love to hear from you! Feel free to post pictures of your Disney items and comments below!
