Want to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel with European inspiration that will help you relax and rejuvenate? Well, Disney’s Riviera Resort will do all this and much more!
Back in January, Disney gave us our first look at Disney’s Riviera Resort, which isn’t set to open till later this year. And today, Disney has revealed even more details of the resort’s meticulous design and Imagineering as it slowly approaches its opening and we’re super excited! From this new release, it seems this hotel will celebrate the elegance of a modern European retreat with a touch of old-world glamour that Walt and Lillian Disney would have reveled in themselves.
Beginning with the hotel’s view from the balcony, its overall design is inspired by the sophisticated early 20th century hotels that were found along Europe’s Mediterranean coast. Its look will feature stone base and smooth stucco facades, which will be accented with decorative metalwork and colorful awnings. The hotel will also feature French mansard roofs and Italian style arches and loggias, which will bring together styles found along the coastal region.
The center building, or tower, will serve as the heart of the resort and adjacent wings will be designed as if they were added progressively to accommodate more travelers to the hotel. This is similar to the buildings and architecture in Europe, which grew and evolved over time as they’d receive more visitors.
Both wings of the resort will grow in height from eight to ten stories, providing guests sweeping views of the resort that can be seen from the rooftop restaurant, Topolino’s Terrance – Flavors of the Riviera. Porticos, towers, and terraces will all add to each resort wing’s styling, offering a visual representation of the changes in their design that took place throughout the century.
The styles of the resort’s windows will also vary across the facade of the resort in size, shape, and mullion designs with different awnings, and shutters of varying colors and arrangements. Keeping true to anything Disney, the resort will also feature hidden Mickeys, which can be found on decorative railings throughout the hotel.
