The International Epcot Food and Wine Festival 2017 is full of great tasting food from around the world, and this year a few of the event’s popular and unique dishes have been standing out among its many offerings.
The Epcot Food & Wine Festival has been celebrated for 22 years and this year the event contains not only the most number of days at seventy-five, but also more dishes than ever before. Recently, Gregg Hannon, culinary director of Epcot, discussed with ITM some of the more favored and unique dishes from this year’s festival.

“This year’s biggest sellers are over in Coastal Eats and Active Eats,” said Hannon. Coastal Eats is all about seafood and it is where guests can find the popular Seared Scallop, which comes with roasted corn, butterbean succotash and chili-chipotle butter sauce. The seared scallops are cooked nicely as they are seasoned very well and melt in your mouth. The pairing of the butterbean succotash and chili-chipotle butter sauce only adds more flavors, which come together to create a delicious platter. This dish and some of the other foods found at this kiosk are all from the ocean, giving guests to the festival cuisine that is not only from other countries but also the great waters.
From Active Eats, Hannon discussed the popular Sweet Avocado Crema dessert. The Sweet Avocado Crema is a brightly colored sweet, made with strawberries, yellow cake and tortilla streusel. This dessert is not only sweet but also refreshing as it is made with fresh strawberries that add a more natural sweetness to the dessert. The yellow cake and tortilla streusel are also a nice bonus to this sweet as they are not super rich ingredients and ultimately pack this dessert with even more flavor. This dessert and some of the other dishes from Active Eats are said to fill you with energy as all of the ingredients used at the kiosk are fresh and pack a nice punch to your body’s endurance.
In our interview, Hannon also talked about some more unique offerings from the festival, which included the Handwich and the Sweet Pancake with Spicy Chipotle Chicken Sausage. The Handwich first made its debut in the park back in the 1980’s and now it’s back in 2017, and this new version is made with the combination of zesty cheeseburger and cheddar cheese macaroni. The Handwich really is great for the whole family. Who doesn’t love a cheeseburger? And with the combination of the cheddar cheese macaroni, this single-hand sized option is a must have from the festival.
The Sweet Pancake with Spicy Chipotle Chicken Sausage is created with a sweet pancake base, topped off with spicy chipotle chicken sausage, onion jam and maple butter syrup. The sweet pancake is nice by itself and when combined with the spicy chicken sausage, onion jam and maple butter syrup, this dish really kicks your tastebuds into overdrive. This food option is full of so many amazing individual flavors, and their combination is very satisfying. Maple buttery syrup and chicken sausage are not ingredients that are generally put together, but in this setting it works well.
The Handwich can be found at Epcot Legacy Showplace, along with some other specialty foods offered by the park. The Sweet Pancake with Spicy Chipotle Chicken Sausage can be picked up at the Flavors from Fire kiosk, which is where guests can experience some of the spicier foods offered at the festival. The Flavors from Fire kiosk also features a few spicier cocktails as well.
