First revealed via a recent interview with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Tom Staggs and officially announced shortly thereafter, the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure at Epcot will soon feature a “Phineas and Ferb” theme. The popular Disney Channel show is becoming the new theme of the interactive experience around the World Showcase.
Disney Phineas & Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure will be the new name of the experience, swapping out Kim Possible characters with those from the “Phineas and Ferb” show beginning this summer. The new adventure will be based on the “wily secret-agent alter-ego of Perry the Platypus,” Agent P. He’ll be enlisting the help of park guests to battle villain Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
The Kim Possible “Kimmunicator” will be known as a “high-tech secret agent device” and continue to take players on an adventure through Epcot countries, including Mexico, France, Germany, Norway, Japan, China and the United Kingdom.
Tom Staggs did not reveal much more in the recent interview with Travel Weekly, though his comment did predate Disney’s official announcement:
TRAVEL WEEKLY: A number of the park rides are based on movies. How about the Disney Channel shows?
TOM STAGGS: We have an interactive experience based around Kim Possible in Epcot and will be converting it to one developed around Phineas and Ferb. It’s possible that we could see other attractions that are hard assets, but we do think about what their life cycle will be.
The official announcement was made on the heels (and likely as a result) of Staggs’ interview comment.
Phineas and Ferb are no stranger to Disney’s theme parks. In May 2011, they began making regular appearances at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in a movie-themed meet-and-greet:
The pair also have a “rockin” street party at the Disney California Adventure theme park at the Disneyland Resort in California.
Despite Disney’s “Kim Possible” animated TV series ending in 2007, the characters from the show have remained in the parks. Since its debut in 2008, the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure has been extremely popular, with “Kimmunicator” devices in the hands of guests throughout the World Showcase, helping to solve crimes and defeat villains.
But “Phineas and Ferb” is a much more current Disney property, still extremely popular and still on the air, having made its debut less than a month before “Kim Possible” left the airwaves. The cartoon’s Perry the Platypus (or Agent P) even recently danced with First Lady Michelle Obama at a Walt Disney World special event:
The Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure was created by the same Imagineer who most recently debuted the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom role-playing game at Walt Disney World and it’s likely the same team will be involved in repurposing Kim Possible’s adventure into that of Phineas and Ferb.
The Phineas and Ferb replacement of the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure is set to debut this summer, with rumors suggesting the switch will happen in June. So fans of Kim Possible likely have less than three months to help Kim, Wade, and Ron battle villains throughout Epcot’s country pavilions.
