Disney Strips Ice Cream Store From Main Street, U.S.A. With Immediate Effect

Ice cream is part of the Main Street, U.S.A. formula at Disney’s castle parks. Walt Disney World has Plaza Ice Cream Parlor (which recently added a brand-new treat for Halloween), while Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris both have Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlors, serving old-fashioned cones, sundaes, and floats in suitably nostalgic surroundings.

The tradition stretches beyond parks with a literal Main Street. Tokyo Disneyland’s equivalent, World Bazaar, has Ice Cream Cones, a pink-and-white shop overlooking Cinderella Castle. Disneyland Paris also doubles down with a second option for ice cream fans: The Ice Cream Company.

However, Disney has now closed the ice cream spot.

Disney Closes Ice Cream Shop Indefinitely

Disney has now shuttered The Ice Cream Company.

The store – which typically sells tubs of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, as well as hot chocolate, affogato-style coffee, and various beverages – has covered the window where cast members usually serve Disneyland Paris guests.

Fortunately,  The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour remains open. While it doesn’t sell Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, it offers scoops of Carte D’Or, beignets (although these Mickey-shaped treats stretch the typical definition of the New Orleans staple), and muffins. Guests can also purchase champagne in collector flutes.

Both The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and The Ice Cream Company have operated as weekend-only establishments since September 7. Following The Ice Cream Company’s closure on September 28, it’s unclear whether The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour is operating on weekdays or sticking to this weekend-only schedule.

There’s currently no reopening timeframe for the eatery. However, with Disneyland Paris about to enter its coldest months, we wouldn’t be surprised if the park limits Main Street’s ice cream stores to just one through autumn and winter.

Disneyland Park also sells sweet treats at nearby Victoria’s Home-Style Restaurant, a “welcoming 19th century-style boarding house” that often sells seasonal desserts.

As of writing, its Halloween-themed lineup includes a mousse inspired by Ursula of The Little Mermaid (1989) and another inspired by Hades from Hercules (1997). It also boasts a Halloween beer, plus its usual Mickey-shaped waffles, milkshakes, and elaborate cold brew coffees.

The resort, in general, has historically faced criticism from Disney fans for offering lower-quality (and more expensive) food than Disney’s theme parks in the U.S. and Asia. While Disneyland Paris has expanded its offerings in recent years, it still lacks the same variety and fanbase as the likes of Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.
