But there’s one part of Disney World that doesn’t always follow that early schedule: the restaurants.
A surprising number of popular dining locations don’t open at 11 a.m. In some cases, guests have to wait until noon or even 12:30 p.m. before lunch begins. Other restaurants skip lunch completely and don’t open their doors until dinner.
That could throw a major wrench into your plans if you’re counting on an early meal.
Disney World Dining Doesn’t Always Start Early
Disney World vacations tend to push guests toward an unusually early schedule.
Early Entry can get eligible resort guests inside the theme parks before regular opening, while plenty of other visitors arrive for rope drop. That means someone could easily spend three or four hours walking around a park before the clock reaches 11 a.m.
Naturally, that can make an early lunch sound pretty appealing.
However, Disney’s posted operating schedules show numerous restaurants beginning service after 11 a.m. The biggest concentration is at EPCOT, where several World Showcase restaurants don’t begin serving lunch until 11:30 a.m., noon, or later.
That makes checking restaurant hours especially important before building your Disney World itinerary, as pointed out by Disney Food Blog.
Several EPCOT Restaurants Make Guests Wait Until Noon
Some of EPCOT’s biggest dining locations aren’t options for an 11 a.m. lunch.
Tutto Italia Ristorante in the Italy Pavilion currently begins lunch at 12:30 p.m., making it one of the later lunch openings in World Showcase. Its lunch service runs until 3:55 p.m., followed almost immediately by dinner beginning at 4 p.m.
Le Cellier Steakhouse isn’t quite as late, but guests still have to wait until noon. The popular Canada Pavilion restaurant currently serves lunch from noon until 3:55 p.m.
Biergarten Restaurant also starts serving at noon, while Chefs de France begins lunch at the same time. Nine Dragons Restaurant in the China Pavilion joins that noon group as well.
Those times aren’t particularly unusual for restaurants outside a theme park. Inside Disney World, though, noon can feel much later.
A family that arrived for Early Entry might have already ridden several attractions and walked miles around EPCOT before its lunch reservation finally arrives.
Other EPCOT Locations Open a Little Earlier
Not everything requires waiting until noon.
San Angel Inn Restaurante begins lunch at 11:30 a.m. Guests can find the restaurant inside the Mexico Pavilion, where its dining room creates the appearance of eating outside beneath a nighttime sky.
Katsura Grill in the Japan Pavilion also currently opens at 11:30 a.m. That’s particularly worth remembering because it’s a quick-service location. Guests may assume quick-service restaurants will automatically be available earlier, but that isn’t always the case.
Regal Eagle Smokehouse opens even later at 11:45 a.m. If barbecue is part of your EPCOT lunch plan, heading toward The American Adventure immediately at 11 a.m. could leave you waiting around for another 45 minutes.
Space 220 Restaurant also begins lunch at 11:30 a.m., while Nine Dragons waits until noon.
Thirty minutes might not seem significant on paper, but Disney vacations often run on carefully planned schedules. A delayed lunch could affect an upcoming Lightning Lane return time, afternoon hotel break, or another reservation.
Animal Kingdom Guests Need to Watch the Clock Too
Tiffins Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom currently begins lunch service at 11:30 a.m. Because Tiffins is a Signature Dining location, many guests will likely have the restaurant worked into their plans ahead of time rather than deciding to eat there spontaneously.
Still, the opening time matters.
Guests who arrive for Early Entry and want a sit-down meal before leaving the park for an afternoon break may discover their options don’t line up perfectly with that schedule.
Disney’s current list of locations beginning service after 11 a.m. extends beyond EPCOT and Animal Kingdom, too. Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom also has a first posted operating time after 11 a.m.
Some Disney Restaurants Don’t Serve Lunch at All
Then there are the restaurants where waiting an extra 30 or 60 minutes won’t solve the problem.
La Hacienda de San Angel at EPCOT doesn’t currently open until 4 p.m. That’s particularly important because guests can easily confuse it with San Angel Inn Restaurante, which begins lunch much earlier.
Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is another dinner-only experience. Its current operating hours begin at 4 p.m.
Over at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Sebastian’s Bistro starts even later at 4:30 p.m.
California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort currently opens at 5 p.m., meaning guests visiting the resort during lunchtime shouldn’t expect to grab an afternoon meal there.
And Disney has locations that start even later.
Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa currently begins dinner service at 5:30 p.m. Monsieur Paul at EPCOT also begins at 5:30 p.m. Other restaurants, including Jiko – The Cooking Place, Narcoossee’s, Flying Fish, Boatwright’s Dining Hall, Maya Grill, and Capa, begin service around 5 p.m.
EPCOT Guests Should Pay Particular Attention
The biggest takeaway applies to EPCOT.
World Showcase gives guests a huge selection of restaurants, but having plenty of choices doesn’t necessarily mean every choice will be available when you’re ready to eat.
Disney’s current listings include a long collection of EPCOT restaurants and lounges whose first posted operating times come after 11 a.m. That group includes Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria, Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya, Teppan Edo, Rose & Crown Dining Room, Spice Road Table, Tutto Italia Ristorante, Le Cellier Steakhouse, Biergarten Restaurant, and others.
That becomes even more important for guests who deliberately eat early to avoid the traditional lunch rush.
You might plan to grab lunch around 11 a.m., use the busier afternoon hours for a resort break, and then return to EPCOT for the evening. If the restaurant you’ve picked doesn’t open until noon or 12:30 p.m., that entire schedule can shift.
Check Before You Start Walking
The good news is that this is an easy Disney World problem to avoid.
Before heading across a park or traveling to another resort specifically for a restaurant, check its operating hours in the My Disney Experience app. Disney World restaurant hours can vary by date, so a schedule posted for one day shouldn’t automatically be treated as the schedule for your entire vacation.
This matters even more when dining reservations, Lightning Lane return times, transportation, and afternoon breaks are all competing for space in the same itinerary.
Disney World might get moving early in the morning, but not every restaurant moves with it.
For guests who like eating lunch at 11 a.m. or earlier, that makes a little extra planning worthwhile. Otherwise, you could arrive hungry at one of Disney World’s most popular dining locations only to discover that lunch isn’t starting for another hour—or that the restaurant isn’t opening until dinner.
