We already covered this recasting when Disney first confirmed that another actor would take over the role for an upcoming Star Wars special. At the time, though, fans hadn’t actually heard much of this new version of Din.
That’s changed.
LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian officially arrived on Disney+ on September 2. Now, one day after its release, the recasting is no longer something waiting in the wings.
Gavin Hammon has officially taken over as the voice of Din Djarin for the animated project, while several of Pascal’s former co-stars returned to play their familiar characters.
And that creates an interesting situation for one of Star Wars’ biggest modern heroes.
Pedro Pascal Became the Voice Behind the Helmet
Pascal first stepped into the Star Wars universe when The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ in 2019.
The series became a major part of Disney’s early streaming push and quickly turned Din Djarin and Grogu into two of the franchise’s most recognizable modern characters.
Pascal remained attached to Din across all three seasons, primarily serving as the character’s voice.
However, Din Djarin has always been somewhat unusual compared to most major Star Wars roles.
Because the Mandalorian spends so much time underneath his helmet, Pascal wasn’t physically inside the armor for every scene. Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder regularly performed as Din during action sequences and other moments, with Pascal supplying the character’s recognizable voice.
Pascal then continued his association with the character as Din moved beyond streaming television and onto the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026).
Now Disney has another version of the character available to stream, and Pascal isn’t voicing him.
Disney Officially Replaces Pedro Pascal for New Special
Disney confirmed that Gavin Hammon would replace Pascal as Din Djarin in LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
The animated special offers a comedic LEGO spin on memorable events from all three seasons of The Mandalorian, allowing Disney to revisit major moments through a much different lens.
Hammon provides Din’s voice rather than Pascal.
We already covered the recasting when Disney confirmed the change, but there’s an important update now: the special has officially been released.
LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ on September 2. Now, viewers can officially hear Hammon’s version of Din Djarin rather than simply waiting to see how the recasting plays out.
And Pascal’s absence becomes even more interesting when looking at the rest of the cast.
Several Mandalorian Stars Returned
Disney didn’t simply replace the entire cast with new voice actors for the LEGO project.
Quite the opposite.
Several major performers from The Mandalorian returned to play their established characters.
That makes Pascal’s absence much more noticeable.
Disney clearly wasn’t opposed to bringing its live-action performers into this animated LEGO version of the story. Many of them came back.
Pascal didn’t.
Instead, Hammon is the voice audiences hear coming from beneath Din Djarin’s helmet.
Still, there’s a major distinction fans need to keep in mind before viewing this as the end of Pascal’s Mandalorian run.
Pedro Pascal Hasn’t Been Replaced in Live Action
This change applies to LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
Disney has not announced that Gavin Hammon is taking over as the live-action Din Djarin moving forward.
That’s particularly important considering what Pascal himself has said about his future with the character.
While promoting The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026), Pascal made it clear that he remained open to playing Din for as long as audiences wanted more stories and he remained physically capable of participating.
Pascal also talked about wanting another chapter for Din and Grogu, suggesting he believes Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s corner of the Star Wars universe still has more stories to tell.
Those comments don’t exactly sound like an actor trying to leave the franchise behind.
Instead, Disney appears to be treating LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian as its own version of Din Djarin.
The Mandalorian Has Never Been a One-Man Performance
There’s also something fitting about another performer stepping into this particular role.
Din Djarin has never been brought to life exclusively by Pascal.
Wayne and Crowder have spent plenty of time physically wearing the armor, particularly when Pascal wasn’t available or when production required stunt work. Pascal’s voice helped tie those performances together and created the Din audiences immediately recognized.
Hammon now joins that unusual history.
The difference is immediately obvious because this time audiences aren’t simply seeing another performer underneath the armor. They’re hearing a different voice.
For longtime viewers, that’s likely to be the biggest adjustment when watching the newly released LEGO special.
Disney Now Has Two Versions of Din Djarin
As of now, the Mandalorian officially has another voice.
Gavin Hammon’s Din Djarin isn’t a future casting announcement anymore. LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian arrived on Disney+ September 2, giving audiences their first opportunity to experience this new take on the character.
But the distinction remains important.
Disney has replaced Pascal for this animated LEGO incarnation of Din. It has not announced that Pascal is finished as the live-action Mandalorian.
If anything, Pascal has publicly left the door wide open for another adventure.
For now, Star Wars fans essentially have two versions of Din Djarin: Hammon’s newly released LEGO interpretation and Pascal’s established live-action character.
Whether Pascal eventually returns for another chapter remains up to Disney and Lucasfilm. But one day after LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian‘s release, the franchise’s latest recasting is officially no longer theoretical.
Fans can now hear Disney’s new Mandalorian for themselves.
