There is a specific type of vacation disappointment that often goes unnoticed, one that transcends the typical issues of ride closures or unexpected rainy days. Imagine this scenario: you’ve eagerly anticipated your stay at a Disney World resort for months, your excitement building as you prepare for a magical getaway. However, upon checking into your hotel, you awaken to the jarring sound of jackhammers just outside your window. As you make your way to the pool, you find yourself navigating through scrim-covered walkways, and to top it all off, the restaurant you had meticulously marked on your itinerary for a special dinner is closed for refurbishment.
This kind of experience can be frustrating, as it detracts from the very essence of the Disney experience. Disney World resorts are in a constant state of evolution and improvement, bringing about upgrades and new offerings that enhance future visits. However, this progress often comes at a price: guests may encounter disruptive construction noise, access restrictions to certain areas, and unfortunately, a number of dining establishments might be temporarily unavailable.
This is precisely why it is essential to stay informed about these changes. Disney has recently announced a comprehensive wave of updates and alterations set to take place this fall, affecting 10 resort areas across the property. If you already have a trip booked or are in the process of planning one, being aware of these impending updates will prove invaluable before you finalize your travel plans.
Disney World Room Refurbishments Bringing the Noise
Several resorts have guest room refurbishments running through fall and well beyond. All-Star Movies Resort began room refurbishments in May and will continue through late January 2027, so guests booked there should expect construction sounds and blocked-off areas. If you want that same value-resort atmosphere without the noise, All-Star Music and All-Star Sports are solid alternatives.
Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Kidani Village refurbishment wrapped up in May, but now Jambo House takes its turn, with construction continuing through January 2027.

Port Orleans Riverside is in for the longest haul, with guest room refurbishments running through August 2027 across different sections of the resort. Guests wanting to avoid the noise entirely should consider the sister resort, Port Orleans French Quarter, which offers the same amenities and transportation, plus walking distance to those famous beignets.
Big Disney World Construction Projects Continuing Into Fall
The Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower both have lengthy projects underway, with Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower Atrium construction running through late 2027. Main Tower exterior maintenance may also impact views from various spots around the resort, something worth knowing if you are booking specifically for that iconic view.
Wilderness Lodge has big things coming, headlined by the addition of its new Disney Vacation Club property, Lakeshore Lodge. In the meantime, Wilderness Lodge and Copper Creek Villas and Cabins are undergoing exterior refurbishment through late 2026, and the security kiosk is being expanded through mid-October. The resort entrance stays open, but lane closures may pop up, and some areas may have obstructed views.

The Yacht and Beach Club Resorts are both getting exterior maintenance as well, with Yacht Club work scheduled through the end of the year and Beach Club work continuing all the way through late 2027.
Grand Floridian Resort and Spa construction, including work on the covered entrance, continues through early 2027.
Disney Word Dining Changes Worth Planning Around
The dining updates this fall might matter even more than the construction for many guests. The Grand Floridian Cafe closes in mid-July and is set to reopen later in the fall, which means a gap of several months for one of the resort’s most beloved restaurants. In the meantime, guests can enjoy the popular brunch over at Citricos.
At the Yacht Club, Yachtsman Steakhouse closed in early May with a tentative reopening date of early September. If your trip falls before then and a great steak dinner is on your list, Steakhouse 71 at the Contemporary is a strong substitute, or Ale and Compass offers solid entrée options if you would rather stay in the Yacht and Beach Club area.

The most intriguing dining news comes from the BoardWalk Inn. After Jellyrolls closed last year, fans have wondered what would take its place, and now there is at least a strong hint. A new lounge called Hurly-Burly is set to open in late 2026, promising fun-filled afternoons and glamorous evenings inside a historic seaside theatre with a BoardWalk story spanning over a century. Disney has not confirmed the exact location, but based on the lounge’s size and the concept art, the old Jellyrolls building looks like the likely spot.
Good News at Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa offers the most encouraging timeline of the bunch, with most of its ongoing work wrapping up by fall. Treehouse Villas construction continues through late September, the Turf Club Lounge reopens in late August, and the Turf Club Bar and Grill closes from late August through late September. The Lake Buena Vista Golf Course also reopens this fall following a full greens refurbishment, irrigation upgrades, and other enhancements.
If your fall trip overlaps with any of these resorts, a little planning now saves a lot of frustration later. Check your dates against these timelines, consider the suggested alternatives, and book that steak dinner accordingly.
