Walt Disney World Resort has reached a new stage in the ongoing refurbishment of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which opened alongside the Central Florida vacation destination in 1971. Here’s the latest update on the construction.

On June 16, WDWNT reported that protective netting and scrims have been removed from a previously covered section of ceiling in the main Grand Canyon Concourse at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Since late 2025, the black scrim had covered exposed beams and other interior infrastructure in the ceiling near the right-most skylight in this photo:

Walt Disney World Resort removed and replaced a section of ceiling tiles near the Mary Blair mural and above the Fantasia Market merchandise location. The new tiles seamlessly blend with the old ceiling design, matching the mid-century modern and retro-futuristic art style that has defined Disney’s Contemporary Resort since 1971.

While this project seems to be complete, refurbishment work will continue on Disney’s Contemporary Resort through late 2027.

What Hotel Guests Need to Know

Walt Disney World Resort’s website warns guests that they may see or hear construction during their upcoming stays at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Typically, Disney restricts noisy work to the daytime hours when most guests are at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, or Disney Springs.

Most Deluxe Disney Resort amenities are available throughout the ongoing refurbishment work in Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower atrium. Monorail service continues. However, the construction “may impact exterior views” and, at times, force guests to seek alternate paths of travel in and around the original Walt Disney World Resort hotel.

As always, families are encouraged to visit the front desk with any concerns about the impact of construction on their stay at a Disney Resort hotel.
