Weeks after the box office failure of The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), official Disney Trading Pins inspired by Star Wars are looking a little different–at least at Disneyland Resort. Here’s what collectors need to know before their next visit to the Southern California Disney parks.

On June 11, WDWNT reported that Disneyland Resort had released a new set of Star Wars trading pins with updated cardboard backing. The Disney Park guests first noticed the changes at the 20th Century Music Company Shop on Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland Park. However, the updated Star Wars cards are likely to roll out throughout the rest of Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney as the old merchandise cycles out.

The new cardboard cards are mostly black, with a shiny black “Disney Pins” logo at the bottom and the classic Star Wars logo in white Aurebesh font at the top. They’re outlined with a gray geometric pattern, similar to the technology in the intergalactic Lucasfilm universe.

Not all of the Star Wars pins have this new backing card yet. Many throughout the Southern California Disney parks and the Downtown Disney District are still on plain white cardboard with the blue “Disney Pins” logo and a stamp of authenticity.

Most of the time, customized Disney Trading Pin backing cards indicate that a pin is limited edition or limited release. However, these Stormtrooper, Darth Vader, R2-D2, Mandalorian, and Ewok pins are open editions, so the updated backings do not indicate they will disappear from shelves anytime soon.

Most likely, Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and the Disney Store will eventually update all open edition Star Wars Disney Trading Pins with this new cardboard backing. The online Disney Store and both Disney parks release new open-edition, limited-edition, and limited-release Disney Trading Pins every Tuesday.
