Disney World fans waited months to experience the newly transformed Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, but now that the attraction has officially opened, many guests are running into an entirely different problem. Getting on the ride may be tougher than expected.

Hollywood Studios exploded with crowds on May 26 as guests rushed through the gates, hoping to be among the first riders. By mid-morning, the situation inside the park already felt chaotic in certain areas. Long lines formed across Sunset Boulevard, Lightning Lane selections disappeared almost instantly, and many visitors realized they might not actually get to experience the new coaster at all.

For Disney, the debut was clearly a major success. The problem is that success is also creating one of the most difficult ride situations the park has faced in quite some time.

And right now, guests heading to Hollywood Studios need to know exactly what they are walking into.

Goodbye to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

For years, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith stood as one of the defining attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The high-speed indoor launch coaster became a fan favorite thanks to its intense takeoff, inversions, neon visuals, and heavy rock soundtrack.

The attraction also carried a strong sense of nostalgia. Many Disney World visitors grew up riding it, and it became one of the park’s signature thrill rides after opening in 1999.

Still, rumors about Disney changing the coaster had circulated for years.

As Disney slowly moved away from certain older partnerships and began leaning harder into recognizable in-house intellectual properties, many fans suspected the Aerosmith theme would not last forever. Earlier this year, Disney officially confirmed the retheme, announcing that The Muppets would take over the iconic attraction.

The move sparked mixed reactions online.

Some longtime fans hated the idea of losing the Aerosmith version entirely. Others believed The Muppets were a smart fit for the coaster’s chaotic energy. Disney then spent months preparing the ride for its official relaunch while previews and early testing took place behind the scenes.

Now, the transformation is complete.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets Officially Opens

On May 26, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets officially opened to regular guests at Hollywood Studios.

The updated attraction keeps the same ride layout and launch system that fans already know, but Disney completely changed the experience surrounding it. Guests now enter a Muppets-themed story featuring Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, along with appearances from several familiar characters throughout the queue and pre-show areas.

Inside the coaster itself, Disney added new music, updated effects, fresh visuals, and Muppet-style humor layered throughout the experience. The overall tone feels far more chaotic and comedic compared to the original Aerosmith version.

And honestly, that unpredictability may end up becoming part of the attraction’s charm.

Early reactions from guests have mostly been positive so far. Many visitors seem surprised by how naturally The Muppets fit into the coaster experience. Others simply love seeing the franchise gain a major attraction after concerns that The Muppets had lost presence inside Disney World over the years.

But while reviews remain strong, operations inside Hollywood Studios became much harder almost immediately after opening day began.

Disney Guests Blocked at the Start

Guests hoping to casually walk onto the new coaster quickly discovered that was never going to happen.

Within hours of opening, wait times for Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets reportedly climbed all the way to 120 minutes. Sunset Boulevard became one of the busiest areas in the park as crowds flooded toward the attraction during rope drop and Early Entry.

The demand, honestly, was not surprising.

Disney spent months promoting the transformation, and May 26 became one of the biggest attraction launch days Hollywood Studios has seen in years. Between the Muppets coaster opening, the launch of Cool Kid Summer activities, and new experiences debuting across Walt Disney World, many fans specifically planned trips for this week.

The issue is that the sudden surge in demand immediately created access problems.

For many families, standing in a two-hour line for a single attraction is simply not realistic, especially during Florida’s summer heat. Unfortunately, guests hoping to bypass the standby using Lightning Lane are running into another obstacle entirely.

What About Lightning Lane?

Disney officially added Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets to Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections at Hollywood Studios, which initially sounded like good news for guests.

The reality has been much more frustrating.

Visitors checking the My Disney Experience app are already discovering that Lightning Lane return times for the coaster have been disappearing almost immediately. In many cases, guests who purchase Multi Pass later in the day — or even several days into their vacation window — find no availability at all.

And that is creating disappointment very quickly.

If Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is your top priority attraction at Hollywood Studios right now, there is a strong chance you may open the app expecting to secure a return window and instead find completely sold-out selections.

That problem becomes even worse because Hollywood Studios already has one of the most competitive Lightning Lane systems at Disney World. Attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Rise of the Resistance, and Tower of Terror already create intense demand every single day.

Now Disney has added another extremely popular attraction to that mix.

Why Guests Are Suddenly Feeling Blocked From the Ride

At the moment, the biggest issue is not necessarily the coaster itself. It is how difficult the overall system has become for average guests trying to access it.

If you rope-drop the attraction during Early Entry, you are competing against resort guests who often arrive extremely early. That causes the line to balloon almost immediately after the park opens.

If you try using Lightning Lane instead, availability may already be gone.

And if you simply wait until the middle of the day, standby times can remain intimidating depending on crowd flow patterns throughout Hollywood Studios.

For guests who spent money specifically to experience Disney’s newest coaster, that can feel frustrating fast.

The good news is that crowd behavior inside Hollywood Studios today also revealed some useful strategies for guests to follow moving forward.

The Best Tips for Riding the New Muppet Coaster

Early Entry created the coaster’s longest waits of the day, with huge crowds rushing to Sunset Boulevard before Hollywood Studios officially opened. But later in the morning, crowd patterns started shifting across the park.

At one point, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets reportedly dropped to just 45 minutes as guests moved toward Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and other attractions.

Because of that, rope-dropping the coaster may not be the best strategy right now. Guests could have better luck waiting until later in the morning or parking closer when crowds thin out.

Watching live wait times inside the My Disney Experience app can also help. Crowd flow changed several times throughout opening day, and those shifts may continue as Disney adjusts operations for one of Hollywood Studios’ most in-demand new attractions.
