Disney Reintroduces 2 Hollywood Studios Attractions to Lightning Lane Ahead of Summer Crowds

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is about to become a whole lot more competitive again.

For the past several months, guests visiting the park have had a slightly easier time navigating Lightning Lane Multi Pass thanks to a few major attractions being unavailable. With some of the park’s biggest offerings temporarily closed for updates and reimagining work, the overall lineup felt smaller, but it also created a strange balance where demand was spread out differently across the park.

That balance disappears on May 26.

Disney is officially restoring the full Lightning Lane lineup at Hollywood Studios, and it arrives during one of the busiest stretches of the summer travel season. For guests planning upcoming vacations, this could dramatically change how quickly reservations disappear each morning, especially for families trying to secure the most popular rides in the park.

Hollywood Studios Has Become Disney World’s Most Competitive Park

Magic Kingdom may have the largest collection of attractions, but Hollywood Studios has quietly become the most difficult park for Lightning Lane strategy.

Part of that comes from the park’s ride lineup. Unlike EPCOT or Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios has a concentrated group of extremely popular attractions that routinely generate long waits from rope drop until park close. Slinky Dog Dash regularly posts some of the highest standby waits at Walt Disney World. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance can still climb into multi-hour territory on busy days. Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania!, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway also pull massive crowds daily.

Then there is the issue of capacity.

Hollywood Studios simply does not have the same number of attractions as Magic Kingdom. That means guests often funnel toward the same handful of rides throughout the day. Once Lightning Lane reservations begin disappearing, standby lines across the park can escalate quickly.

Now Disney is adding even more pressure back into the system.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Returns in a Completely New Form

One of the biggest changes arriving May 26 is the reopening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. But this is not the same attraction guests previously experienced for years.

Disney is officially reopening the ride as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, replacing Aerosmith with the iconic Muppet characters in one of the biggest ride rethemes Disney has done in recent years. The attraction immediately returns to the Tier 1 Lightning Lane Multi Pass category once it reopens.

That matters because Tier 1 selections at Hollywood Studios are already highly competitive.

Guests purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass can only initially select one Tier 1 attraction before arriving at the park. The lineup includes:

Adding another high-demand attraction into that mix could create a major shift in booking patterns.

For months, Slinky Dog Dash has dominated Tier 1 demand because there were fewer headliner options available. Now, Disney fans eager to experience the Muppets retheme will likely flood toward Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster reservations instead.

That could actually create some unusual strategy opportunities.

Families who prioritize Slinky Dog Dash may suddenly find better availability if enough guests rush to grab Muppets reservations first. At the same time, anyone hoping to experience the new version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster may need to book Lightning Lane immediately once their window opens.

Disney Jr. Returns Too

The other returning experience is Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, which also officially reopens May 26 and returns to the Tier 2 Lightning Lane category.

While it may not create the same frenzy as the Muppets coaster, this addition is still important for families with younger children.

Hollywood Studios has steadily leaned harder into family entertainment over the past few years. Between the Disney Jr. offerings, Frozen Sing-Along, and the recent additions connected to younger audiences, Disney appears focused on broadening the park beyond thrill rides and Star Wars experiences.

The timing is also notable because Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! returns just as summer family travel ramps up. Younger kids visiting Hollywood Studios now have another Lightning Lane option available again, which could slightly redistribute crowds across the park.

Still, the bigger story remains the overall return to a “full lineup” system.

Lightning Lane Prices Are Climbing Again

Perhaps the biggest sign Disney expects heavy demand is the pricing itself.

According to the latest updates, Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Hollywood Studios is set at $37 per person on May 26, approaching the system’s all-time high of $39. The lowest recorded price has been just $20.

That is a huge jump.

Disney’s variable pricing model continues to function as a crowd predictor. When Lightning Lane costs rise, it usually signals Disney anticipates major attendance levels and strong reservation demand.

Late May already brings a perfect storm for Walt Disney World crowds:

  • Schools across the country begin summer break
  • New entertainment offerings debut
  • Families start summer vacations
  • Holiday weekend travel increases
  • Disney’s newest experiences begin attracting repeat visitors

Now add a completely reimagined headliner attraction featuring the Muppets into the equation.

Hollywood Studios could become one of the hardest parks to manage this summer for guests who do not plan ahead.

Rise of the Resistance Still Stands Alone

Even with the expanded lineup, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance remains separate from Multi Pass entirely.

The attraction continues operating as Hollywood Studios’ only Lightning Lane Single Pass offering. That means guests must still purchase it individually if they want expedited access without using standby.

This is where Disney’s Lightning Lane system can start becoming expensive quickly for larger families.

A guest purchasing Multi Pass, adding Rise of the Resistance separately, and potentially considering Premier Pass can easily spend hundreds of dollars in a single day just on line-skipping access.

Disney’s Premier Pass, which allows one-time access to every Lightning Lane attraction in the park, remains available as well.

For many guests, though, the bigger frustration is not necessarily the price. It is the pressure.

Planning a Hollywood Studios day increasingly feels like a race against the clock. Families often wake up early to secure reservations, monitor return windows throughout the day, and constantly refresh availability hoping better options appear.

Now that the full lineup returns on May 26, that competition may become even more intense.

At the same time, Disney probably sees this as a major win. More attractions are operational again, entertainment capacity expands, and guests finally regain access to experiences that had been unavailable for months.

But for visitors hoping for a relaxed Hollywood Studios day this summer, the return of the complete Lightning Lane lineup could make planning much more complicated than before.
