The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser once stood as one of Disney’s most ambitious theme park experiments. Designed as a two-night immersive “voyage” aboard the Halcyon, the experience invited guests to step into their own Star Wars storyline through role-playing, interactive missions, and themed dining.
Although the concept earned praise for its level of immersion, its steep cost ultimately limited its audience. Disney closed the experience in September 2023 after just over a year in operation. Still, developments suggest the company is not letting the project disappear entirely.
Two years after the closure, the Halcyon facility was given a new role. Disney confirmed in 2025 that the structure, which once housed the Galactic Starcruiser, is being converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering—the same creative division responsible for developing the original experience.
Aerial photos last year showed construction vehicles and equipment around the site, pointing to ongoing work to transform the building into a workspace for Disney’s design teams. The change sparked discussion online, with some critics commenting on the building’s stark exterior and describing it as “cold” or even “prison-like.”
Galactic Starcruiser Location Gets Renamed
Visitors exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios may notice a subtle but telling change tied to one of Disney’s most ambitious–and short-lived–experiences.
The docking area once used by guests traveling between the now-closed Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and Batuu has quietly received a new identity. Blog Mickey has reported recently that updated signage appears at the cave-like entryway where Starcruiser passengers would “arrive” after their shuttle journey from the Halcyon.
Previously known as Docking Bay 3, the location has been renamed Docking Bay 6, marking a small but symbolic shift away from the defunct immersive hotel storyline. When the Galactic Starcruiser experience was operational, guests staying aboard the Halcyon traveled to Batuu as part of the narrative-driven adventure. Their transport would arrive at this docking bay inside Galaxy’s Edge, completing the illusion that they had landed on the remote outpost planet.
Despite the new name, the area itself remains largely unchanged.
The Halcyon Lives On
While the real-world version of the Halcyon is changing, the starship itself continues to appear within the Star Wars universe. A brief Easter egg in the trailer for 2026’s The Mandalorian and Grogu includes the vessel’s Aurebesh logo alongside the slogan “Halcyon, See the Galaxy.” The quick reference places the ship firmly within Star Wars canon.
The cameo highlights Disney’s ongoing connection to the concept, suggesting the company still sees storytelling value in the starliner even after the attraction’s closure.
The Halcyon is also finding new life beyond Disney’s parks. A third-party company, C & S Themed Interiors, has also begun offering fans the opportunity to recreate one of the hotel’s distinctive cabins at home. The replica room features design details inspired by the original accommodations, including themed lighting, an intercom system, and the sleek sci-fi style guests encountered during their stay.
For fans who never boarded the Halcyon—or couldn’t justify the cost—the custom installation provides an unusual way to bring a piece of the experience into their own space.
Together, these developments reflect Disney’s complicated relationship with the Galactic Starcruiser. The company is repurposing the physical building into a practical workspace, while still referencing the Starliner in Star Wars media.
Whether through Imagineering’s future work inside the building, references in upcoming films and series, or fan-built recreations, the Galactic Starcruiser’s legacy is continuing in unexpected ways.
