Disney World has officially commented on one of Magic Kingdom’s most mysterious projects.

Earlier this summer, fans started to notice that the iconic Adventureland entrance sign leading from Main Street U.S.A. was being disassembled. Over a span of a few days, more pieces of the sign continued to go missing until almost nothing was left. Even the structure of the sign itself was taken apart.
Disney World remained silent on the project, though it was clear what was happening. What fans didn’t know was what the sign would look like when it returned. We theorized this project may have been part of an effort to “modernize” Adventureland, something seen with other attractions and locations around the park and rest of Walt Disney World Resort.
The greatest example of this is with Peter Pan’s Flight, which was updated to be more inclusive.
After a few weeks, the Adventureland sign has since returned, sporting a slightly different, but mostly identical look as it used to.
Disney recently shared an official update on the project, saying that the refreshed Adventureland sign features improved props and a hand-stitched fabric banner.

This is hardly the only renovation Magic Kingdom has seen in recent months, with the entire theme park changing in exciting ways.
In January, the park’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extensive refurbishment, which will upgrade the classic roller coaster in exciting ways. Earlier this summer, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin closed for similar reasons, with the classic arcade-style dark ride set to get several enhancements during its downtime.
Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America are also changing, though whether or not this is considered an “improvement” depends on who you talk to. In July, fans said their final goodbyes to the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat attractions.
This section of the park will eventually become Piston Peak, a new national park-inspired area inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise.
Another notable enhancement at Magic Kingdom includes The Beak and the Barrel, a new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar that opened at the end of August.
