Jurassic fans may abandon an upcoming official theme park experience for a new one that’s unrelated to the franchise.

Jurassic Park is the undisputed king of dinosaur franchises. Whether it’s The Land Before Time or The Flintstones, no other IP has come anywhere near as close in terms of success and popularity. But even as the latest film in the series, Jurassic World Rebirth, has its sights set on $1 billion worldwide, the franchise’s time in the sun may be coming to an end.

Of course, Jurassic Park isn’t going anywhere, but plenty of other dinosaur-related content unrelated to the franchise is in development. For starters, on the big screen, there’s the upcoming R-rated action horror Primitive War, adapted from the book of the same name. But it’s really the world of video gaming where Jurassic is about to get a run for its money.

Jurassic No Longer Has the Monopoly on Dinosaur Theme Parks

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding “Clawed,” an upcoming third-person game set in an abandoned dinosaur theme park known as Prehistoria. Other upcoming dino games include “Instinction” and “The Lost Wild,” and “Ferocious.” For fans looking to temporarily distance themselves from Jurassic — at least where consoles are concerned — there’s no better time.

But one of the most standout titles is a fan-made project from creator Krenautican. If you have your finger on the pulse of all things Jurassic, that name likely rings a bell. Krenautican became popular within the fandom for creating the fan made game “Jurassic Park: Operations” a few years ago. It was a promising up-and-comer, until Universal came along.

“Cretaceous Kingdom” Has Replaced Jurassic Park in a New Game

Last year, Krenautican, who had re-created Isla Nublar and with it, all the vehicles, facilities, enclosures, and dinosaurs as seen in the 1993 film (everything from the park gates to the jungles and a lot more), received a “cease and desist” from Universal, the studio behind Jurassic Park. Essentially, this meant that they had no choice but to rebrand their game.

Unfortunately, Krenautican was forced to either abandon the project altogether or remove any Jurassic Park branding from the virtual environment they’d painstakingly created and come up with their own. Through it was obviously no easy feat, that’s exactly what they did, announcing in a video last year their remodeled game: “Cretaceous Kingdom”.

However, there was a long gap of silence after that video. Now, Krenautican has updated their fans with an in-depth look at “Cretaceous Kingdom”. For those worried that the game has lost its Jurassic spirit as a result of the rebranding, the creator reassures fans that, despite all the changes, they’ve made to sure to “keep the same feeling of Jurassic Park.”

“Some things about the game will resemble Jurassic Park, but in the end, this will be an original game that has nothing to do with Universal. This is a fan game made solely for fans,” Krenautican added. You can watch the full video below:

Upcoming Jurassic Park/Jurassic World Content

Needless to say, “Cretaceous Kingdom” looks like a true labor of love that has the spirit and atmosphere of Jurassic Park (1993), more so than the latest sequel in the series, which even feels at odds with the Jurassic World trilogy, let alone the original films. Krenautican says that they’re hoping to release a playable demo of their new game sometime later this year.

If you’d prefer to stick to Jurassic, you’re also in luck. Not only is Rebirth still out in theaters and streaming, but there’s also the fourth season of the animated series, Chaos Theory, arriving in November. As for gaming, “Jurassic World Evolution 3” hits shelves in October. The first-person action-adventure title “Jurassic Park: Survival” is also now in development.

Meanwhile, there are also plenty of real-world Jurassic attractions for you to enjoy. Whether it’s attractions such as Jurassic Park: The Ride, Jurassic World: The Ride, or VelociCoaster at Universal Studios theme park destinations, or Jurassic World: The Experience in the U.K., there’s plenty of dinosaur experiences to sink your teeth into.
