Earlier this year, Netflix officially confirmed the long-awaited fates of Stranger Things and Wednesday, two of its most beloved and record-breaking series. However, this Christmas season, fans were left with a sour taste in their mouths thanks to the global streaming giant.

After facing production setbacks throughout 2023 due to the industry-halting WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, fans were left wondering about the future of these two supernatural hits. With Stranger Things gearing up for its fifth and final season and Wednesday prepping for its sophomore outing, the buzz was strong that at least one would grace our screens in 2024.

However, as delays mounted, a 2024 release began to seem improbable. Netflix revealed earlier this year that both Stranger Things and Wednesday are set to debut in 2025, along with details about what’s to come.

In honor of November 6, 1983—better known to fans as “Stranger Things Day,” commemorating the disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) into the Upside Down—Netflix dropped a special teaser. The video unveiled the titles for the final eight episodes of the Duffer Brothers’ iconic series, promising an epic conclusion to the story of Hawkins, Indiana.

The episode titles include “The Crawl” (previously announced), “The Vanishing of…,” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape From Camazotz,” “The Bridge,” and the final installment, “The Rightside Up.” This last title is a touching callback to the Season 1 finale, “The Upside Down,” suggesting a full-circle ending for the Hawkins crew.

Season 5 will reunite viewers with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will (Schnapp), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), among others, as they face off against Henry Creel/One/Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the ever-looming Upside Down.

Fan favorites Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), and Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield) are all confirmed to return, promising an emotional and action-packed farewell.

It was only a few weeks ago that Netflix was teasing its upcoming year.

“So looking into 2025, you’ve got new seasons of our biggest shows: Wednesday, Squid Game, Stranger Things,” Netflix shared in its recent Q3 earnings report. “On top of that, new shows from Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy, a Knives Out sequel from Rian Johnson, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, even the return of Happy Gilmore. We couldn’t be more excited about where we’re heading.”

With the season now wrapped, fans are anticipating the first official footage of the popular TV show, but despite it being one of their biggest shows, audiences will have to wait even longer. A new Netflix 2025 trailer has got fans livid after omitting any new footage of Stranger Things while showcasing scenes of its “biggest shows,” including the Duffer Brothers’ hit, Wednesday and Squid Game.

Stranger Things Updates (@Updates_SThings) shared the teaser on X (formerly Twitter):

What is this shit? just the logo… Netflix…

Replying to the post, @b1tchinggreen said:

how you gonna advertise 3 new seasons of shows and then just show the same footage from the older ones. And when all of the seasons have been filmed so they don’t have an excuse

@Bart2389 said Netflix must show new footage during the 2025 Super Bowl after not including anything new in this teaser for next year:

[Looks] like that’s it…[yet] again were disappointed when it comes to getting stranger things 5 footage when we thought we would… all Netflix did was show off old clips to promote season 5 for next year… Super Bowl HAS to be when we get the first footage

Another user, @motherts1307, joked about Netflix’s promotional strategy for Stranger Things 5 using a viral clip of Wicked‘s Ariana Grande:

Netflix when stranger things season 5 isn’t as popular as season 4 because they didn’t give it any good promo

@byrhop threatened to boycott the not-yet-released Squid Game Season 2 if Netflix did not release anything for Stranger Things Season 5:

@netflix give stranger things 5 footage or we’re boycotting squid game

Hopefully, Netflix will drop a teaser for the fifth and final chapter of Stranger Things in the coming months, but for now, fans will have to wait with bated breath to get an idea of what direction the season will take.

Meanwhile, the Jenna Ortega-led phenomenon Wednesday will also return in 2025, bringing the Addams Family flair back to Netflix. Tim Burton’s darkly whimsical series smashed records upon its 2022 debut, surpassing Stranger Things as Netflix’s most-viewed English-language show in a single week. (For context, Squid Game–which just returned for its second season on December 26–still holds the all-time crown.)

With its gothic charm and Ortega’s Emmy-nominated performance, Wednesday has solidified itself as a flagship franchise for Netflix. The second season will explore more of Nevermore Academy and introduce exciting new characters played by Joanna Lumley, Haley Joel Osment, Christopher Lloyd, Thandiwe Newton, and even Lady Gaga.

Following the trend set by Stranger Things, fans can expect feature-length episodes for the sophomore season–something Ortega described as akin to movies.

With over 280 million subscribers, Netflix is the undisputed leader in the streaming world. It continues to dominate against the likes of Disney+, Max, and Hulu. With Stranger Things, Wednesday, and Squid Game headlining its 2025 lineup, the platform is poised for another landmark year.
