A Walt Disney World Resort guest threatened to barricade themselves in their hotel room over a mandatory security check policy.
Whether you’re staying at a Value Resort hotel, Moderate Resort hotel, Deluxe Resort hotel, or Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villa, Disney cast members will enter your room daily. Cast members will perform a security check even if you decline “Mousekeeping” services.
Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort implemented this policy after the 2017 Las Vegas shooting.

planDisney explains the room checks as follows:
“Here’s how it works: Mousekeeping will knock on your door to let you know they are there. When they enter the room, they will look around to ensure everything is in order and will promptly exit. They will not go through your personal belongings, open any of your bags, or disturb your privacy.”
Although it’s been in place for years, some guests aren’t aware of the room check policy.

Former Disney cast member Kelsey Conkling shares stories about her time working at Walt Disney World Resort on TikTok. In a recent video, Conkling recounted an experience with “Stacy,” an angry Disney Resort hotel guest who demanded that no one enter her family’s room.

Stacy approached the front desk and demanded to immediately speak with a cast member.
“Someone was in my room today,” the Disney Resort guest exclaimed.
Conkling asked if the guest thought a stranger had broken into the Walt Disney World hotel room.

“Well, I guess because they moved stuff around,” Stacy replied.
“Was anything taken?” the Disney cast member asked.
The guest replied that the alleged perpetrator had only taken her family’s trash. Relieved, Conkling explained that the intruder was just a “Mousekeeping” cast member cleaning the Disney Resort hotel room as scheduled.

“So, you admit there was somebody in my room then?” Stacy asked. “Well, I don’t want them in my room anymore. That is a violation of my privacy.”
Conkling happily explained that the family could decline housekeeping services, but a Disney cast member would stop by the room every day for a mandatory safety check.
Unsurprisingly, the guest wasn’t happy about the daily room checks. She threatened to refuse entry to the Disney cast members.

“Absolutely not, no,” she responded. “No one is going to violate my privacy when I’m on vacation, okay? I just won’t leave the room then, and I won’t let them in. I’ll barricade the door.”
Conkling informed the guest that she would have to call security if she acted on or repeated her threats.
“Obviously, I was exaggerating,” the guest replied before walking away. It’s unclear if further action was necessary for Disney cast members to perform their mandatory daily room checks.

In the comments, Disney Parks fans argued about the divisive security policy. Some agreed with “Stacy.”
“It is crazy that Disney does this though,” @anonymousadj wrote. “No one should be entering my room if I don’t wish it so. Do not disturb tags exist for a reason…When you impede on my right to privacy- it is eliminating my freedoms. I will not trade my freedom for security theater.”
“I like getting housekeeping but if I put up a do not disturb sign, no one better come in unless it’s an emergency,” @aisarete replied.

Still, most agreed that a mild inconvenience was worth it to protect Walt Disney World Resort guests. Many shared their favorite Mousekeeping memories.
“Mousekeeping put all of my niece’s Toy Story characters on the bed and put the remote in Woody’s hand,” said @hiccupingduck. “We were so surprised to see the lights and TV on, but the display was so magical!”
“We had all of [our] ears just thrown on top of the dresser, and housekeeping rolled a towel and displayed them,” @samanthablayne recalled. “It’s the little details.”
