Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort are titans of the theme park industry, dedicated to efficiency and guest satisfaction. However, some of their rules and regulations rub some guests and employees the wrong way.

Normally, guests’ only concerns when dressing for the Disney parks are what clothes and belongings they need to combat the weather or the challenge of schlepping through the Magic Kingdom in the Florida sunshine. However, tattoo ban talks have set some potential park-hoppers off.

A rumor sparked by MouseTrapNews (a satirical Disney fan site) soon had thousands convinced that Disney is planning to ban all tattoos inside the parks. While this ultimately sparked a vocal reaction, Disney Cast Member Tyson Blatter shared the footage below to quell the panic and share the truth of the situation.

While the situation on guest tattoos is nothing new, The Walt Disney Company only recently started letting its employees have tattoos and body art as recently as 2022. While certainly a progressive step for both the parks and the company, Disney does indeed have a policy regarding tattoos on park property.

What Disney Actually Says

Although Blatter briefly covers it in the footage above, Disney lays out its tattoo policy for guests in the Walt Disney World property rules under the “Attire” section. The official statement reads as follows:

“Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. Clothing that drags on the ground is prohibited in theme parks and water parks. Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search. We reserve the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that we consider inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs, are not permitted. There are specific costume guidelines for special events such as Halloween parties and runDisney events; please refer to the additional policies applicable to those events.”

In short, tattoos are indeed permitted as long as they remain family-friendly. As Blatter states in his coverage, it’s as simple as wearing family-friendly attire to a family-friendly park.

Common sense is truly the best option nine times out of ten, and the tattoo policy is simply Disney encouraging its guests to use it. While ink is certainly not verboten, offensive imagery and attitudes still are.
