Ahead of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’s opening day at the Disney theme parks, the company has announced fans can catch a sneak peek at the new ride. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was announced back in 2020, with Disney confirming its legendary log flume ride known as Splash Mountain would be closing forever. The decision came after decades of backlash and controversy surrounding the ride, which was heavily inspired by Disney’s incredibly problematic film Song of the South (1946). Splash Mountain officially closed at Walt Disney World and Disneyland in 2023, with work swiftly taking over the former attraction.
Splash Mountain was its own adventure but featured characters and settings taken directly from Song of the South, which was often criticized for its portrayal of African Americans. In 2020, Disney officially pulled the plug, announcing that a brand-new experience would be taking the place of this iconic Disney theme park ride.
For years, this project remained under wraps, with Disney not sharing any details. However, as opening day gets closer and closer, The Walt Disney Company has started releasing more and more information about this very exciting new ride. As part of the 15th anniversary of The Princess and the Frog (2009), Disney will be releasing even more exciting details about this new attraction as part of its D23 Down in New Orleans event.

According to the official D23 website, attendees will get a special new look at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as part of this event.
Guests of this event will get a peek at what’s cooking with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure-coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort later this year. At a specially curated presentation, you’ll discover new ingredients at play from Walt Disney Imagineering, detailing the impeccable research, collaboration, and creative development that is bringing elements of the real-life magic from New Orleans to this exciting attraction.
This is just one part of the celebration, with plenty of other fun events taking place during D23 Down in New Orleans. This special event will also feature an appearance from Keith David, who voiced Dr. Facilier in The Princess and the Frog. This is a very exciting but somewhat peculiar choice, considering the character will most likely not make an appearance in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure due to the ride’s story taking place after the events of the movie.
D23 Down in New Orleans begins March 23, 2024, with ticket prices ranging from $199 to $249, depending on member status.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open this summer at Magic Kingdom, with the Disneyland version opening sometime later this year.
