Disney Resort Public Access Revoked: Here’s Why

Broken Spell Lounge at the Disneyland Hotel is temporarily closed for refurbishment, removing one of the hotel’s evening drinking and dining options during the heart of Disneyland Resort’s 2026 Halloween season. Disney’s official dining page currently marks the Sleeping Beauty-inspired lounge as closed and tells guests to check back for updates, but it does not publish a reopening date.

That distinction matters. While third-party operating calendars currently show the closure extending at least through October 23, Disney itself has not confirmed that Broken Spell Lounge will reopen in “late October.” For guests planning fall visits, the safest assumption is simply that the lounge remains unavailable until Disney posts an updated operating schedule.

Broken Spell Lounge Refurbishment Lands During Halloween Time

The timing puts the Broken Spell Lounge refurbishment squarely inside one of Disneyland Resort’s busiest seasonal programming windows. Disney’s official 2026 Halloween calendar runs Halloween Time from August 21 through October 31, while Oogie Boogie Bash takes place on select nights from August 18 through Halloween.

Demand for the separately ticketed event has also been substantial. Inside the Magic reported that all standard 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash dates had sold out by September 9, leaving only the D23-exclusive September 27 event as an advertised route at that time. Earlier in the season, Disneyland Park reservations also reached capacity for Halloween Time’s August 21 opening day.

That makes an evening lounge closure more noticeable than it might be during a quieter stretch. Broken Spell Lounge is not inside Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park, so its closure does not remove an attraction or an Oogie Boogie Bash offering. It does, however, reduce the lineup of places available at Disneyland Hotel for guests looking to extend an evening outside the gates.

The Sleeping Beauty Lounge Is Still a Relatively New Addition

Broken Spell Lounge debuted in October 2024, transforming the former lobby lounge space near the long-closed Steakhouse 55. Inside the Magic covered the new Broken Spell Lounge when the Sleeping Beauty-inspired concept arrived, with Disney leaning into a dark, enchanted-forest aesthetic rather than treating the space as a generic hotel bar.

Disney currently describes the venue as a sophisticated forest setting inspired by Sleeping Beauty. Its published menu includes specialty cocktails, wine, small bites, entrées, and desserts, making it useful both as a pre-dinner stop and as a place for a late-night drink.

The refurbishment therefore comes less than two years after the Broken Spell identity debuted. Disney has not publicly detailed what is being changed during the work, so there is no verified basis yet to describe the project as a retheme, menu overhaul, expansion, or major redesign.

Magic Key Holders Aren’t Being Locked Out of the Disneyland Hotel

The closure may be frustrating for local visitors, including Magic Key holders who use Disneyland Resort hotels and Downtown Disney as part of an evening out. But there is an important line between one lounge being unavailable and Disney restricting access to the Disneyland Hotel itself.

Disney has announced no resort-wide “Magic Key lockout” tied to this refurbishment. In fact, Disney’s current Magic Key discount page still lists Broken Spell Lounge among participating dining locations, although the venue cannot be used while it is closed.

That matters because Halloween-season demand can make any loss of capacity feel larger. Inside the Magic has tracked the rapid Oogie Boogie Bash sellouts and the pressure surrounding high-demand Halloween dates, but neither those ticket restrictions nor the Broken Spell Lounge closure establishes that Magic Key holders are being denied general access to Disneyland Hotel.

Disneyland Hotel Still Has Other Dining and Lounge Options

Guests heading to the hotel are not losing every evening food-and-beverage option. Disney’s official Disneyland Hotel dining directory continues to list Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill, Palm Breeze Bar, Goofy’s Kitchen, The Coffee House, and in-room dining alongside Broken Spell Lounge.

That is especially relevant after another major hotel lounge underwent work earlier in 2026. Inside the Magic previously reported on the Trader Sam’s refurbishment, which temporarily took its indoor experience offline. The Broken Spell closure is separate, and guests should check Disney’s current operating information before building an itinerary around either location.

Halloween offerings also continue elsewhere across the resort. Disney has seasonal character dining at Goofy’s Kitchen through October 31, while the parks remain filled with Halloween entertainment, attraction overlays, food, and décor. Inside the Magic’s coverage of Disneyland’s 2026 Halloween changes offers additional context for what remains available during the refurbishment.

What Disney Has — and Hasn’t — Confirmed About Reopening

For now, the most important planning detail is also the least satisfying: Disney has confirmed the closure, but not a reopening date. The official Broken Spell Lounge page says only that the venue is “currently closed for refurbishment” and directs guests to check back for updates.

Public operating calendars extending through October 23 show the lounge unavailable, which supports describing the closure as lasting at least into late October on the currently visible schedule. It does not establish October 24, October 25, or any other date as the official return.

Guests visiting during Halloween Time should plan around Broken Spell Lounge rather than count on it reopening during their trip. Once Disney restores operating hours or announces a return date, that will provide the first firm indication of when the spell is ready to be cast again.
