Disneyland Resort has confirmed the upcoming closures of two historic theme park attractions: Mad Tea Party and Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. Here’s what to know before your next visit to the Happiest Place on Earth.

On August 6, Disneyland Resort updated its website to announce that Mad Tea Party will not be operating on Monday, September 14, 2026. The Southern California vacation destination’s operational calendar currently runs only through Thursday, September 17, and Mad Tea Party has no operating hours thereafter.

Presumably, the Disneyland Park attraction is closing for a refurbishment–that’s usually the cause of temporary closures at the Disney parks. However, Disneyland Resort has not shared any plans for the iconic spinning teacups in Fantasyland.

Also on Thursday, Disneyland Resort updated the webpage for Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island to reflect that it will not operate from September 14 through September 17. As with the Mad Tea Party, it’s unclear how long the refurbishment closure will last, and Disney has not shared any plans for the attraction.

Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island recently reopened after a May 2026 refurbishment, following its April closure. The walkthrough attraction is the only one of its kind currently operating in the United States, as Walt Disney World Resort shuttered the Magic Kingdom Park version of Tom Sawyer Island in 2025 to make way for a new Cars (2006)-inspired section of Frontierland called Piston Peak National Park.

Disneyland Resort has not shared any information about the upcoming closures of these two attractions: Mad Tea Party and Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. For now, all Southern California Disney Park guests know is that neither attraction will operate from Monday, September 14, through Thursday, September 17.

Most attractions that close for refurbishment at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park reopen without any noticeable changes. Without any word from Disneyland Resort, that is what Disney Parks fans can expect to happen here.
