Herein lies the problem with the current mentality at Disney: they feel the need to make “major concept replacements” everywhere. First of all they never should have strayed from the permanent world’s fair concept for EPCOT, but now even on a smaller level they are changing concepts that work. I am reminded of a story about Walt Disney I heard one of his animators tell, and I’m paraphrasing: He questioned an old gag in one of the scenes, and Walt said that gag was funny in 1929, and it’s funny today. He was right. Stop changing concepts that are timeless and slapping a date on them with your so-called “re-imagining.” Update the tech, even the story, but keep the concepts the same. Why? Because it works! That’s why they are so beloved.
