I must disagree with the dates you quoted. The Journey Into Imagination was open on October 1, 1982 for the official EPCOT opening. The ride with Figment and Dreamfinder was not completed but the 3D movie Magic Journeys and the upstairs playground with the Rainbow corridor, Luminaria and Stepping Tones were all open. And Figment was part of the merchandise even though the character was unknown. We attended the opening with our 4 and 2 year old daughters and we bought them Figment plush toys to take home. True the ride didn’t debut until 1983 but the pavilion did in 1982. 😉
