Splash Pad Refurbishment at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
On August 12, the Alice in Wonderland-inspired aquatic play area suddenly closed for refurbishment at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Walt Disney World Resort did not announce a refurbishment for the splash pad, despite acknowledging several other ongoing construction projects at the Deluxe Magic Kingdom Resort Area hotel.
For several weeks, the slides have been blocked off, and the large bucket (shaped like the Mad Hatter’s hat) that slowly fills and then dumps water on guests was wrapped in plastic. Water was not flowing in the aquatic play area. Still, Walt Disney World Resort’s website gave no updates on the refurbishment project.
As August comes to a close, we finally have an update on this splash pad refurbishment at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Late August Project Update
On August 26, WDWNT reported that the giant Mad Hatter cap water bucket has been uncovered and is no longer wrapped in plastic. The outlet shared a photo of the current state of the Alice in Wonderland-themed aquatic play area on social media:
Still, water is not flowing throughout the splash pad or the slides. A construction lift was spotted nearby, suggesting that the unannounced refurbishment project is not complete.
Additionally, portraits of Alice, the White Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter that usually decorate the aquatic play structure were sitting on the ground nearby, presumably waiting to be reinstalled.
The Alice in Wonderland-themed splash pad and play area at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa remained closed at the time of this article’s publication. Walt Disney World Resort has not said a word about the project or said when the Deluxe Disney Resort amenity will reopen.
