Credit: D23The first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party event of the 2026 season took place on August 7, 2026. The special-ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom included several returning favorites and new entertainment offerings for Central Florida Disney Park guests. However, without making an announcement, Walt Disney World Resort appears to have removed the last remaining not-so-family-friendly elements from one of the most iconic parts of the spooky after-hours event: Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.
Here’s what fans of the original entertainment offering need to know before their Halloween visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth.
Goodbye, Pain and Panic
One of the most noticeable changes to Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade this year is the removal of Pain and Panic, Hades’ minions from Hercules (1997). The characters, who once traveled from Frontierland, through Liberty Square, past Cinderella Castle, and down Main Street, U.S.A., no longer adorn the back of the Skeleton Band float. They have been replaced with Anastasia and Drizella, the stepsisters from Cinderella (1950).
Anastasia and Drizella appear at Magic Kingdom Park far more frequently, so one could argue that this swap makes it easier for Walt Disney World Resort to maintain their costumes and use existing character performers for the roles. However, the removal of Pain and Panic comes as part of a long line of Disney removing saucier, more adult-inspired elements from Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.
Pain and Panic were previously trapped in dark metal cages behind the Skeleton Band, each holding a glowstick. The cages, while reminiscent of Hades’ underworld, also evoked imagery of go-go dancers in Vegas nightclubs–especially with the glowsticks in hand and band playing up front.
In more recent years, Walt Disney World Resort removed the cages from the float, allowing Pain and Panic to wave to fans, glowsticks still in hand. This year, though the cages still aren’t on the back of the Skeleton Band float, and Anastasia and Drizella stand where Pain and Panic once stood–no glowsticks in hand.
A Long Time Coming
The removal of Pain and Panic appears to be the last in a slew of changes focused on removing anything remotely risqué from Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.
In 2023, for example, Walt Disney World Resort removed the Western dancers that once led the Halloween Hoedown section of the parade. The cowgirls used to wear very short, Daisy Duke-like denim shorts. Now, scarecrows lead the procession, wearing long overalls and straw hats instead of short-shorts. The Country Bears and other characters still walk alongside the Frontierland-inspired float.
When Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort updated the redheaded pirate in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in 2018, changes to Mickey’s Boo-To-You Parade followed. The objectified female pirate once walked alongside the Pirates of the Caribbean float that carried Captain Jack Sparrow, but has not appeared in the spellbinding parade for several years.
As time goes on, it’s clear that Disney is trying to retain the family-friendly reputation of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. The park is trading fun for the whole family, filled with innuendos that adults would enjoy but kids may not understand, for a sanitized version that focuses on wholesome imagery.
Kids and kids-at-heart can still trick-or-treat around Magic Kingdom Park, wear Halloween costumes, ride spooky versions of their favorite attractions, meet Mickey Mouse or other iconic characters, see a wicked assortment of Disney Villains, wave to the Headless Horseman, and admire the ghosts of the Haunted Mansion, but gone are the days of adult-focused Easter eggs at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
Of course, as with most minor changes at the Central Florida theme parks, Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on the removal of Pain and Panic from Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
How to See Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade
Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade is exclusive to the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party event, which takes over the Magic Kingdom on select nights from now until October 31. Many event nights are already sold out, so Walt Disney World Resort guests are encouraged to get their tickets as soon as possible for the best availability. Ticket prices range from $119 to $229 for adults and $114 to $219 for children nine and under.
The not-so-scary procession takes place twice nightly: the first parade at 8:15 p.m. and the second at 11:15 p.m. Earlier performances are often more crowded, so it’s better to catch the later showing if you can.
Other entertainment offerings at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party include themed character meet-and-greets, Mickey’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks over Cinderella Castle, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, and, new for 2026, Stitch’s Masquerade Mashup, a dance party in Tomorrowland.
