The shutdown had already been scheduled, but August 4 marks the first day the ride is officially unavailable. It will remain closed for several weeks while the Disney park prepares it for its next seasonal run.
The attraction is one of several versions of Haunted Mansion operating across Disney’s international theme parks, although its annual schedule differs from those found in the United States.
Disney Attraction Closes on August 4
Haunted Mansion at Tokyo Disneyland is officially closed as of August 4.
The attraction is scheduled to remain unavailable through September 14, leaving it closed for roughly six weeks.
Disney had already listed the closure on its refurbishment calendar. Now that the date has arrived, guests visiting the park will need to plan around the temporary shutdown.
Located in Fantasyland, Tokyo Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion opened with the park in 1983. Its exterior closely resembles the version found at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, while the ride itself uses the familiar Doom Buggy system and many of the same scenes.
The closure is not expected to bring a permanent change to the attraction.
Instead, Disney is preparing Haunted Mansion for the return of its annual seasonal overlay, which will operate through the Halloween and holiday periods.
Seasonal Version Returns in September
Haunted Mansion is scheduled to reopen on September 15 as Haunted Mansion “Holiday Nightmare.”
The seasonal version is inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas and introduces characters including Jack Skellington, Sally, and Oogie Boogie.
The overlay adds new props, lighting, music, decorations, and Audio-Animatronics throughout the attraction. Its storyline follows Jack Skellington as he brings his own version of Christmas to the mansion.
Tokyo Disneyland first introduced Haunted Mansion “Holiday Nightmare” in 2004. It has since become a regular part of the park’s autumn and winter calendar.
Disneyland in California also operates a similar Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, although the two attractions follow separate refurbishment schedules.
For guests visiting Tokyo Disneyland before September 15, Haunted Mansion will remain unavailable.
When it reopens, the standard version of the ride will be replaced by “Holiday Nightmare” for several months before the original attraction eventually returns.
