Guests have already watched longtime pieces of the land disappear as Walt Disney World prepares the area for its future. Now, another familiar Frontierland location has temporarily joined the closure list.
Unlike some of the permanent closures happening around Frontierland, however, this one comes with good news, depending on who you ask, of course. The historic restaurant isn’t disappearing.
Instead, Disney is preparing to reopen The Diamond Horseshoe with an entirely different dining experience, replacing its previous menu with small plates, specialty drinks, and cocktails.
And Disney has now revealed exactly what is coming.
The Diamond Horseshoe Closed for Major Changes
The Diamond Horseshoe has long been one of Magic Kingdom’s most recognizable Frontierland-area dining locations.
Its Old West saloon appearance fits naturally alongside the surrounding architecture, while the large interior has served several different purposes over the years.
Most recently, guests knew The Diamond Horseshoe primarily as an extension of the nearby Liberty Tree Tavern dining experience.
That version is now being replaced.
Disney previously paused its table-service dining at The Diamond Horseshoe in May 2026, clearing the way for changes to the location. This included the limited-time “Jessie’s Roundup.” Then, the location was closed. The closure wasn’t permanent, but guests won’t find the same restaurant when the doors reopen.
Instead, Disney is essentially giving the historic location another identity.
The Diamond Horseshoe will officially reopen on October 4, 2026, as a limited-time pop-up experience featuring shareable small plates, specialty non-alcoholic beverages, cocktails, wine, and beer.
Reservations will become available September 29, although Disney will continue accepting walk-up guests as well.
That represents a substantial departure from what guests previously found here.
Disney Is Replacing the Previous Menu
Perhaps the biggest change involves the food itself.
Rather than bringing back the previous family-style dining experience, Disney is introducing a collection of smaller dishes designed for sharing.
The new menu includes charcuterie featuring cured beef, candied bacon, smoked pork, green chile cheese, smoked cheddar, and pickles.
Guests will also find glazed sticky ribs served with cowboy beans and jalapeño crisps.
Another new option is queso fundido with barbecue burnt ends and warm tortilla chips. Sweet golden corn fritters will come with cilantro ranch dressing and red chili honey.
Disney is also adding a chipotle chicken tostada featuring queso fresco, lime crema, and pickled cactus salsa. A mini hot dog platter wrapped in pastry rounds out the announced small-plate lineup.
It’s a very different approach for The Diamond Horseshoe.
Instead of operating as another place for guests to enjoy the same style of substantial meal associated with Liberty Tree Tavern, the restaurant will become a spot where visitors can stop for smaller dishes and drinks.
That isn’t the only major replacement Disney has planned.
Alcohol Becomes a Much Bigger Part of The Diamond Horseshoe
The new Diamond Horseshoe will also place significantly more attention on beverages.
Disney has created four specialty non-alcoholic drinks, including an Orange Cream Soda made with Fanta Orange, vanilla, and cream.
There’s also Caramel Root Beer with Sweet Cream, Enchanting Ember Lemonade, and an Enchanted Grove Lime Splash.
But the cocktail menu represents an even bigger change.
Disney will serve five primary cocktails when the restaurant returns.
The Whinnyin’ Whiskey Lemonade combines Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Aperol, strawberry purée, lemonade, and basil.
The Cactus Rose Margarita uses tequila, prickly pear, lime, and agave, while the High Plains Huckleberry mixes huckleberry vodka with crème de cassis, lemon juice, and cranberry.
Guests can also order the Rattler Rum Punch or Coal’d Fashioned. Disney has even created a seasonal cocktail called In Holiday Fashion.
Wine and draft beer will be available as well.

That gives the reopened Diamond Horseshoe a much different purpose than the restaurant guests encountered before the closure.
The Diamond Horseshoe Returns October 4
Fortunately, guests won’t have to wait particularly long to see the changes.
Disney has confirmed that The Diamond Horseshoe will reopen at Magic Kingdom on October 4.
Reservations become available September 29. However, a reservation won’t necessarily be required because Disney plans to accept walk-ups.
Calling the experience a limited-time pop-up is also important.

Disney hasn’t confirmed that this particular version of The Diamond Horseshoe will become the restaurant’s permanent future. The company could use the experience for a limited period before making additional changes.
For now, though, it gives Magic Kingdom something noticeably different.
Guests will have another place to grab smaller dishes rather than committing to a full table-service meal. It also expands the selection of locations serving cocktails inside Magic Kingdom.
And the timing makes the change particularly interesting.
Frontierland Is Changing Around The Diamond Horseshoe
The Diamond Horseshoe overhaul isn’t happening in isolation.
Disney has permanently closed the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat as it moves forward with plans for Piston Peak National Park.
Those removals fundamentally change an area of Magic Kingdom that remained relatively recognizable for generations.
The Diamond Horseshoe isn’t meeting the same fate. Disney is preserving the location and its familiar identity while changing what happens inside.
That makes this overhaul somewhat different from the larger Frontierland projects.
Rather than removing another longtime Magic Kingdom location, Disney is finding a new purpose for it.
And the new menu suggests Disney wants guests to think about The Diamond Horseshoe differently.
A Familiar Magic Kingdom Location Gets a New Purpose
For returning visitors, perhaps the biggest thing to understand is simple: The Diamond Horseshoe isn’t merely reopening after a routine closure.
Disney is replacing its previous dining experience.
The food is changing. The beverage selection is changing. The style of dining is changing.
Instead of returning as the familiar family-style restaurant many guests remember from recent years, The Diamond Horseshoe will reopen as a limited-time saloon-style pop-up centered around small plates and an expanded beverage menu.
That makes October 4 more than just another reopening date.
It’s another example of how quickly this section of Magic Kingdom is evolving.
Major construction will continue reshaping the surrounding area in the years ahead, but Disney isn’t waiting for those massive projects to finish before making other adjustments.
The Diamond Horseshoe is the latest example.
Its doors may be closed right now, but the historic location isn’t going anywhere. When they open again on October 4, guests will find a substantially different experience waiting inside.
