Germany World Showcase Pavilion Construction at EPCOT
Since June, Walt Disney World Resort has installed scaffolding, rolling planters, scrim fabric, and other construction barriers in the Germany World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT. Disney recently filed a permit for “general construction” in the area, listing a third-party roofing company as the contractor. Two weeks ago, Disney closed the bathrooms in the Germany Pavilion for refurbishment.
On July 28, WDWNT reported that roof work had begun at the Germany Pavilion. The red shingles have disappeared from the slanted roof and at least one tower above the Das Kaufhaus merchandise location, replaced by a brown scrim fabric. The outlet shared a photo of the current state of the building on social media:
It’s unclear how long this project will last, and whether the roofwork will extend to other buildings in the Germany World Showcase Pavilion. Several other roofs in the area are showing signs of rot, aging, and sun fading, and Walt Disney World Resort tends to replace worn infrastructure in batches to prevent guests from noticing the obvious contrast between brand-new and old fixtures.
The Das Kaufhaus gift shop remains open throughout the ongoing construction, though some entrances may occasionally close when work is happening directly above.
Scaffolding, scrim, and rolling planters still block the nearby Stein Haus gift shop facade, suggesting that Disney may also do roofwork on this building. Still, that merchandise location also remains open; guests can enter through the Weinkeller facade.
