Ahead of the reimagining of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, Walt Disney World Resort has filed two construction permits for the rotating Tomorrowland attraction. Let’s take a look at what’s about to change at the Magic Kingdom.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress Overhaul

Earlier this year, Walt Disney World Resort announced that Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress would close for its first significant overhaul in decades. The reimagined attraction will feature all-new scenes of the Progress family set in the 1960s, the 1980s, the New Millennium, and the future, as well as an introduction by an audio-animatronic of Walt Disney.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress will close on July 6, 2026. The final day to experience the current version of the Tomorrowland attraction will be Sunday, July 5.

Walt Disney World Resort says the overhaul will be completed sometime in 2027.
Disney Files Two Construction Permits
On June 24, Walt Disney World Resort filed two separate construction permits, both to “install set elements” at 1205 Monorail Way–the address of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom Park. The Notice of Commencement documents list two different third-party companies for the upcoming project. Both construction permits expire in one year.

The first Notice of Commencement contracts Icarus Exhibits, a company that has previously worked with Walt Disney World Resort on TRON Lightcycle / Run, Toy Story Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and more theme park projects. The second document contracts ThemeWorks, an artistic engineering firm that has worked with Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld Orlando, and Walt Disney World Resort. For Disney, ThemeWorks has helped develop Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
Earlier this month, Walt Disney World Resort filed another Notice of Commencement for some steel work at Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.
