For many guests staying at Universal Orlando Resort, waking up to a fireworks show isn’t exactly part of the vacation plan.

That was apparently the case this week when fireworks testing for Epic Universe’s upcoming nighttime spectacular lit up the sky near Universal Helios Grand Hotel, catching at least some guests by surprise.

A social media post shared by Everything You Need To Know showed testing for Universal Celestial Goodnight taking place at Epic Universe. According to the post, the fireworks were visible from inside Universal Helios Grand Hotel, which overlooks Celestial Park at the center of the new theme park.

While many theme park fans would probably consider a private preview of Epic Universe fireworks a bonus, the timing appears to have been a little less magical for some visitors.

Videos circulating online from the testing session sparked discussion among fans, with some joking that guests received an unexpected wake-up call courtesy of Universal’s newest entertainment offering. The testing took place weeks before the show’s official debut, making it one of the clearest signs yet that Universal is entering the final stages of preparation.

And based on what Universal has already revealed, the company is preparing something far bigger than a simple fireworks display.

Epic Universe Finally Gets Its Nighttime Finale

When Epic Universe officially opened in May 2025, guests immediately praised the park’s ambitious design, groundbreaking attractions, and immersive lands.

From SUPER NINTENDO WORLD to Dark Universe, the park delivered some of the most detailed themed environments Universal has ever created.

Still, many visitors noticed one thing missing.

Unlike many major destination theme parks, Epic Universe closed each evening without a large-scale nighttime spectacular serving as a grand finale to the day.

That gap is about to disappear.

Universal recently confirmed that Universal Celestial Goodnight will officially debut on July 7 inside Celestial Park. The production will combine fireworks, music, fountains, and lighting effects into a new nighttime experience designed specifically for Epic Universe.

The announcement answered a question fans have been asking since before the park even opened.

Concept artwork for Epic Universe frequently depicted fireworks exploding above Celestial Park, leading many visitors to assume a nighttime show was always part of Universal’s long-term plans. When the park opened without one, speculation quickly started about when the entertainment offering would arrive.

Now guests have their answer.

Months of Clues Led to This Moment

The recent testing isn’t exactly coming out of nowhere.

Dedicated Universal fans have spent months spotting evidence that something major was being prepared.

Before opening day, guests noticed what appeared to be specialized infrastructure around Celestial Park that looked capable of supporting a future fireworks production. Additional equipment appeared throughout the area, while reports surfaced of Universal hiring professionals with pyrotechnics experience.

Each new discovery added fuel to growing speculation.

The fireworks testing visible from Helios Grand Hotel now serves as perhaps the strongest public sign yet that the debut is rapidly approaching.

For guests staying at the hotel, that means some of the best views of the new production may be available without ever entering the park.

Of course, as some visitors discovered during testing, those views may occasionally come with a few unexpected booms.

Universal Is Going Big

Universal Celestial Goodnight will be one of the most technologically ambitious entertainment offerings at the resort.

The company says the production will feature nearly 600 synchronized lighting fixtures, more than 350 fountains, and roughly seven million LED lights spread throughout Celestial Park. The experience will conclude with a large fireworks finale above the park’s central lagoon.

Those numbers help explain why testing has become such an important part of the rollout process.

Large-scale nighttime productions require extensive rehearsals before opening to the public. Fireworks timing, fountain choreography, lighting cues, music synchronization, and guest safety procedures all need to work together seamlessly.

Testing sessions allow Universal’s teams to identify potential issues before thousands of guests gather each night to watch the show.

The process may occasionally interrupt a few sleeping hotel guests, but it is also helping ensure that opening night goes smoothly.

Celebrating Every World of Epic Universe

One of the most interesting aspects of Universal Celestial Goodnight is how it will tie together the park’s various lands.

According to Universal, the production will include moments inspired by every major world inside Epic Universe.

Guests can expect sequences celebrating SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and Dark Universe.

That approach helps solve a unique challenge facing Epic Universe.

Unlike traditional theme parks built around a single theme, Epic Universe consists of multiple highly immersive worlds that each tell their own story. Creating a nighttime spectacular capable of connecting those experiences into one emotional finale isn’t an easy task.

Universal appears to be using Celestial Park as the bridge that brings everything together.

The result could become one of the defining experiences of a visit to the park.

A Sign of Bigger Things Ahead

The fireworks announcement arrives during a period when many fans are already watching Epic Universe closely for signs of future expansion.

Even before opening, Universal designed the park with growth in mind. Large areas surrounding Epic Universe were intentionally left available for future development, giving the company room to add attractions, lands, entertainment offerings, and other experiences as demand grows.

Recent activity around some of those expansion plots has only intensified speculation.

Universal has not announced what might eventually be built there, but many fans see the arrival of Universal Celestial Goodnight as another indication that Epic Universe is entering its next phase sooner rather than later.

Epic Universe appears to be moving much faster.

The park has already adjusted operations, refined guest experiences, and introduced new offerings throughout its first year. Adding a signature nighttime spectacular gives visitors another reason to remain in the park later, potentially increasing dining, shopping, and overall evening activity.

More importantly, it signals that Universal is continuing to invest heavily in Epic Universe even after its headline-grabbing debut.

For now, some Helios Grand Hotel guests may find themselves getting an early preview of that investment whether they planned to or not.

But once Universal Celestial Goodnight officially debuts on July 7, those surprise wake-up calls will likely become one of the more amusing stories from the show’s road to opening night.
