The next James Bond film is currently in early development at Amazon MGM Studios.
While we know virtually nothing about the direction the studio and the creative team – director Denis Villeneuve (Dune), writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), and producers David Heyman (the Harry Potter films) and Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Homecoming) – are taking, we do know that the film will be unrelated to Daniel Craig’s series and will feature a new actor as James Bond.

Also, Amazon MGM Studios chief Mike Hopkins recently shared an update. During an appearance on Variety‘s Strictly Business podcast, he outlined plans for Bond‘s “new chapter,” confirming that it’s still in the early stages of development and that the team is trying to figure out how to make the franchise “relevant” for a modern audience “for a long period of time.”
Earlier this month, the studio confirmed that the hunt for the next 007 to lead the new film reboot had officially started, with casting director Nina Gold reportedly leading the search.

A New James Bond Has Been Cast
Everyone from Tom Holland (the MCU’s Spider-Man saga) to Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) has had their name floated by fans and media outlets. But as yet, the film’s Bond has not been cast.
Recently, however, IO Interactive’s 007 First Light launched. It stars Irish actor Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) in “an origin story of the world’s most famous spy,” per the synopsis. The game, which has received positive reviews from critics, has sold nearly 3 million copies during its first two weeks and is now likely to get a sequel.
Meanwhile, another new James Bond actor has been confirmed.

Earlier this year, per Radio Times, Big Finish Productions announced a brand-new audio drama that will adapt author Charlie Higson’s first Young Bond novel SilverFin, which was followed by the sequels Blood Fever, Double or Die, Hurricane Gold, and By Royal Command.
Now, per Collider, Isaac Rouse has been cast as the young Bond.
Rouse, 24, is best known for his role as Ollie Chadwyck-Healey in The Crown Season 6, and as Charlie Bucket in Sam Mendes’ stage adaptation of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“More than 500 actors applied for the role of Bond, with 12 finalists brought in to audition. Writer-director Barnaby Edwards was clearly happy with the final choice, saying, ‘Nobody does it better,'” the outlet wrote.

The series will adapt Higson’s novel across 16 half-hour episodes, split into two box sets for roughly eight hours of drama.
Young Bond: SilverFin follows James during his teenage years, before he becomes the iconic MI6 spy. Per YoungBond.com, here’s the official synopsis for Higson’s book:
“There’s something in the water at Loch Silverfin. Something deadly. Something that must be kept secret… It’s James Bond’s first day at Eton, and he’s already met his first enemy. This is the start of an adventure that will take him from the school playing fields to the remote shores of Loch Silverfin and a terrifying discovery that threatens to unleash a new breed of warfare.”
The Young Bond: SilverFin audio series arrives at a time when a number of new 007 books are also being rolled out: Kim Sherwood’s Hurricane Room, Vaseem Khan’s The Man with the Golden Compass, M. W. Craven’s James Bond and the Secret Agent Academy, and even Charlie Higson’s King Zero, an adult 007 novel set within the same continuity as his Young Bond series.
The first Young Bond: SilverFin episodes arrive in October 2026.
