The Jurassic Park film series is unlikely to return to theaters. While the original films proved highly lucrative for Universal Pictures, with the Park trilogy collectively grossing over $2 billion worldwide, the franchise went dormant for 14 years after the release of Jurassic Park III (2001).

In 2015, series was relaunched with a new film under the Jurassic World banner, which alone made $1.671 billion at the global box office. Its sequels, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022), each surpassed the billion-dollar mark. And just last year, the fourth film under that branding, Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), grossed $869.1 million.

Jurassic World Has Replaced Jurassic Park

Even outside cinema, the World banner has been a huge success. We’ve had the two animated TV shows Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory on Netflix, while longstanding Jurassic attractions at Universal Studios resorts have received full overhauls to match the aesthetics of the 2015 film.

There have also been touring exhibitions such as Jurassic World: The Experience and interactive additions to the franchise like the mobile game Jurassic World: Alive and the Jurassic World Evolution series.

As such, the Jurassic Park era may be extinct for good. Aside from a Park-era game that’s currently in development (Saber Interactive’s Jurassic Park: Survival), there are no other plans for Universal Pictures to revisit that part of the franchise’s timeline in any meaningful capacity.

Jurassic World Rebirth Will Return

So, it seems Jurassic World era is here to stay, and with it the new Rebirth saga.

Although another film is only rumored to be in development with Universal yet to announce anything, the park management simulation video game Jurassic World Evolution 3 has just confirmed that it will be getting a brand-new DLC centered around the 2025 blockbuster film.

Yesterday, June 8, Frontier Developments shared a brief teaser which hinted at a Rebirth-themed DLC. Today, a full trailer has been revealed, which confirms the return of the third abandoned InGen island Île Saint-Hubert as seen in the film, and with it dinosaurs such as Titanosaurus, Aquilops, Quetzalcoatlus, and the hybrid creatures known as the Mutadons and the Distortus Rex. The official description for the upcoming DLC reads: “Delve into a game expanding narrative inspired by the dramatic events of Jurassic World Rebirth. Take control of three top-secret locations, and come face-to-face with four new dinosaurs, including the terrifying Distortus rex!”

With Universal continuing to push the franchise forward under the World banner, it seems there’s little space for the Park era other than the Survival game. Given how successful the World films have been, the Park films are now very unlikely to find their way back into theaters.

Jurassic World Evolution 3: Rebirth Expansion will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S from June 16. Visit the official website to find out more.
