While one Jurassic Park experience prepares to open its gates (find out which one here), another one sadly closes.

Jurassic World has been a mainstay of theme parks and immersive experiences since the arrival of Jurassic Park: The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. Now, other rides such as Jurassic World: The Ride and VelociCoaster populate Universal park resorts worldwide. But encounters with genetically engineered dinosaurs are no longer limited to those attractions.

One of the latest iterations, Jurassic World: The Experience, opened last year at Battersea Power Station in London as a rebranded version of the previous Jurassic World: The Exhibition. It’s an interactive, walk-through filled with life-like animatronic dinosaurs.

“Board the ferry to Isla Nublar and pass through the towering gates of Jurassic World,” the official website’s description reads. “Walk beneath the shadow of a majestic Brachiosaurus, come face to face with fierce Velociraptors, venture into the Valley of the Gyrospheres, take a selfie with a baby dinosaur, then brace yourself for the ultimate heart-pounding moment: a close encounter with the most legendary predator of them all… the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex.”

However, the attraction recently experienced a disaster. While no dinosaurs escaped their enclosures like in the original 1993 blockbuster by Steven Spielberg, on Monday December 29, a booking system error left around 30 visitors with discounted tickets unable to gain entry to the exhibit upon arrival, which has prompted public apologies from both Neon, the company running the exhibit, and Wowcher, which supplied the vouchers, per the BBC.

While the majority of guests were accommodated in alternative sessions, some families were turned away entirely. Neon confirmed it was reviewing its booking processes to prevent similar issues, and Wowcher said full refunds would be provided to all affected customers.

The Battersea experience is now set to close permanently, with the final tours scheduled for Sunday January 4. For those unwilling to miss out on the thrills with dinosaurs, other Jurassic World attractions remain open at Universal Studios locations around the world.

There’s also the upcoming first-person action-adventure video game “Jurassic Park: Survival”. While there’s no release date yet, the Saber Interactive title will allow players to explore “a fully realized Isla Nublar” complete with familiar locations such as the Visitor Center and dinosaur enclosures, and never-before-seen areas. You’ll assume the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who must survive Jurassic Park 24 hours after the 1993 film.

Meanwhile, Universal Studios Great Britain is currently underway in Bedfordshire and is set to open to the public in 2031. Although no attractions or themed lands have been confirmed yet, unsurprisingly, Jurassic World is among one of the many IPs rumored to be appearing.
