Directed by Andy Muschietti (2023’s The Flash), the film is based on the DC comic series of the same name and will join last year’s Superman (2025) and upcoming entries like Supergirl (2026) and Clayface (2026) in the newly established DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran. As such, the film will introduce a new Dark Knight, who has yet to be cast.

Several actors have had their names floated as unofficial contenders recently, including Alan Ritchson (Jack Reacher), Tom Brittney (Grantchester), and even Henry Cavill (Man of Steel).

In live action, the new actor will follow Adam West (’60s Batman), Michael Keaton (the Tim Burton films), Val Kilmer (Batman Forever), George Clooney (Batman & Robin), Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy), Ben Affleck (the DCEU films), and Robert Pattinson (The Batman).

Outside film, a new Batman recently arrived in the critically acclaimed game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, with voice actor Shai Matheson (Until Dawn) taking up the mantle.

Now, another new Caped Crusader has been revealed elsewhere in the franchise.

What Is Knightfall?

Knightfall adapts the comic book story of the same name best known for introducing the villain Bane and the moment where he physically and mentally breaks Batman, as depicted in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (2012), which starred Christian Bale and Tom Hardy in those roles.

DC’s synopsis for Knightfall reads:

“When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogues’ Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”

The film is directed by Jeff Wamester, known for his work on DC’s animated Tomorrowverse projects, including the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy, and written by Jeremy Adams. Rick Morales serves as supervising producer on the films, alongside producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan are on board as executive producers.

Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall releases later this year.

The Batman – Part II releases in theaters on October 1, 2027.

There’s no release date for The Brave and the Bold.
