The Star Wars franchise has no shortage of ambitious projects in the pipeline, spanning film, television, and video games, as Lucasfilm continues to expand its post-saga storytelling era.
On the big screen, the next major project is Star Wars: Starfighter (2027), directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and starring Ryan Gosling in the lead role. The film releases in theaters next May and is described as a “standalone adventure” set five years after The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Meanwhile, Ahsoka Season 2 is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime next year, marking the franchise’s return to live-action streaming since Skeleton Crew (2024).

Major Star Wars Project May Get Canceled
As for the gaming side of things, recent years have also seen a steady stream of announcements and releases aimed at keeping the franchise alive on video game consoles. Most notably, Star Wars Outlaws (2024) became the first-ever open-world title to be set in the galaxy far, far away.
But now, another highly anticipated Star Wars game has officially been put at risk.

The long-gestating, narrative-driven video game Star Wars Eclipse, which has been in development for many years, is said to be at risk, with developers at Quantic Dream striking to oppose impending layoffs, with some stating the title “cannot be finished” if layoffs proceed.
First announced at The Game Awards 2021, Eclipse has been a long time coming. But not much has been revealed about the project other than the official trailer that premiered four years ago.

“Set during the High Republic era, Star Wars Eclipseâ„¢ is an intricately branching action-adventure game that can be experienced in many ways, and puts the destinies of multiple playable characters in your hands, created in collaboration between Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games,” the synopsis reads.
The planned round of layoffs would reportedly affect 115 workers, and it follows the developers’ Spellcasters Chronicles, a multiplayer online battle arena game that flopped and was taken offline earlier this month as a result. Several Quantic Dream workers reportedly went on strike this past week when Lucasfilm reps visited to check on the progress of the Star Wars game.

Some of those striking told the French website Gamekult (comments have been translated by Kotaku) that development on the title “cannot be finished” in the event that over 100 devs are let go from Quantic Dream.
There are, however, several other Star Wars games in development from other developers, including the turn-based, strategy and tactics game Star Wars Zero Company, which releases on August 27, and the highly anticipated podracing title Star Wars: Galactic Racer, which arrives later this year on October 6.
